I miss my mom. I talked to her earlier this week, and was thinking that maybe I could go visit her soon as we've both been very good about isolating (just one grocery run a week each) and she is about a 90 minute drive away. Then she mentioned that her church is reopening on Sunday at 50% capacity and she can't wait to go to communion again. So either I see her on Saturday or not again for many months since she's decided to expose herself at church. This whole thing sucks. |
I would be pissed, OP. It seems really wrong to close pools and splash parks for the ENTIRE summer in mid-May. If things are that dire, then salons, bars, gyms, etc. should also be closed. |
I'm responding to "yet stupid Elrich [sic] won't give us a plan. I kneed a fking plan, si I know what to look for to see if we're close to the end of this crapshow." Grow up. Don't blame elected officials for not having a crystal ball. Carry on complaining. |
I try not to worry about tomorrow and focus on the good things I have today (a job, more time with my kids at home). I also realize that other generations had this or worse. WWI and WWII seriously must have felt like the end of times. This is our thing-of-a-lifetime, and most of us will get through it. Sending hugs. |
Exactly. Why is it that Seneca Creek State Park—10 min from my house—is open, but Aberdeen—also close to my house—isn’t? Makes zero sense. Both are in the same county and the difference is solely because Hogan’s team has said state parks can open, but Elrich has decided county parks can’t be open. |
I’m not asking for a crystal ball. I’m asking for a PLAN. Or do you want our government to just throw up their hands and do nothing? |
Your son is one smart cookie! |
Real question amidst my venting: I can imagine multiple problems with pools from health issues to logistics to expenses. What's the rationale for closing splash pads? Does anyone know? I can't imagine why the decision to close splash pads for the entire summer would be made at all -let alone so early in the season. Is it as simple as viewing it as an attraction that will encourage large groups of kids too young to social distance? This sucks rocks. ![]() |
Probably the social distance aspect? As for pools, it’s probably also for social distancing purposes. The virus isn’t waterborne and I imagine chlorine would kill it, so the actual pools aren’t the problem. |
+1 this thread has an obvious person, don't be a jackass. People are allowed to be bummed. |
PURPOSE sorry, autocorrect. |
I’m bummed. I know we have it good—we both still have our jobs and we’re healthy—but my kid is only little once. I was really looking forward to this summer with her at the pool. She’s only going to have one summer as a 3 year old.
I know it’s dramatic and not even close to that important, but I’m still bummed about it. |
I'm with you. I hate this. My kids are unaware and can be happy in the moment, I wish I could be too. (They think summer will be normal with pools and swim team and I don't to crush their hopes until we know for certain.)
It's harder and harder to make the effort to keep things going and happy. I'm so sad. |
Thanks, this comment makes me feel better! |
Me too. It is lame but I miss shopping with my kids. I love pushing them in the cart. They'll be too big too soon. |
