Can you imagine how interesting it would be if several travel teams (and parents) started their own MSI Rec teams? |
Right! Or actually if they are what..3rd grade or older?- I think MSI classic. Would just need a coach for eveyone to chip in and pay. At this point there are plenty of coaches. Less commitment. |
| Alexandria said that if you want to play you should for the most part expect an offer on the team you were on previously. Which is sort of odd, because it was apparent that some kids were in the wrong place - especially players new to Alexandria who were often put on too weak a team. But there isn't room on the team above unless people quit or move down. |
The coaches with whom I am familiar will promote or recommend promotion for players regardless of whether they are relatively new to the club. (My kid came to Alexandria from a different club.) There will be upward mobility. It will become pretty evident for appropriate kids by early June, perhaps earlier. It does take some time for some kids to adapt to the club style and environment, as it does with other clubs. |
I am the PP. That is frustrating. My kid is currently where he belongs, but if our roster grows to take kids currently placed on lower teams, that's not going to be much fun because the kids will not get enough playing time. Our roster was already 14-15 for 9 per side. They either need some kids to drop out, or to move some kids down. |
This is us, too. We can afford to eat $200 if fall rec gets canceled, but not $2000/ x 2 kids. I think one of my two might enjoy rec more anyway, if he can get on a team with school friends. |
They do not generally run large rosters. And they will promote appropriately, whether or not new to club - they don’t promote for the sake of promoting. There is inevitably attrition. There is likely to be more attrition in the current environment. I would wait to see what actually happens before getting frustrated. |
You are right that there is no choice but to wait and see how things go. I hope you are right that things will work out. My son loves soccer, but it is a huge expense for us. |
| Bethesda decreased their deposit (which is really just the first payment out of the yearly commitment total) from $400 to $300. First payment is due September 1st. So essentially, you have some time to see how things go. Unless you want to save $300 bucks and you pay it all up front which would be dumb considering the unknowns. |
Is that true even in expansion years (9 a side to 11)? I was really surprised at a few of the kids who were promoted along with my son. They lacked aggression and also missed tons of practices and games. |
how is this seeing how it goes? Aren't you still required to pay the remaining amount- even if fall is is cancelled? |
If you are going to state what a club says at least do your best to capture what they intended. Like you I am a parent of an Alexandria player. They did not say " if you want to play you should for the most part expect an offer on the team you were on previously" What they did say is exactly as follows and I quote from their email "All current ASA Academy players will be offered a roster spot in their age group for the Academy 2020-21 program" That is very different than what you stated. it doesnt say on the team you were on previously and if you paid attention to prior communications and discussions offered by the club to parents you would know this. They are offering an age appropriate spot to former players and will base that on the usual player assessments and so on. nothing shocking here. Just saying if you were with the club prior you have a spot on a team and that will be determined by where you belong based on skill and so on. |
We just ran the budget last night for our house and it’s rec soccer for all three kids for the fall/spring. Hoping the season goes forward and we will try some supplemental classes if we can. |
Which Loudoun ECNL teams are being told this? |
I cannot speak to your specific team or circumstances, I am sure they generally do not just promote for the sake of promoting. You may not like the selections but this club is the least political in the area with which I am familiar. It is one of the reasons we went there from elsewhere. I am not surprised that some kids do not pan out at the age at which you transition to 11 v 11. Other interests emerge, kids lose interest, or don't develop technically or athletically. Given how competitive the top boys teams are, and the size of the available player pool, I don't think they'd have trouble replacing players like that on a top team and don't think they'd hesitate to do so? |
