| I see a lot of parks full of people training. Almost look like organized practices. We're gonna do this the hard way... |

This was helpful. I was doubtful until this. Not a confirmation but he seems hopeful. Thanks. |
I think some of what he’s opening has been open in Virginia all along. Golf, fishing, beaches. Virginia never closed these. |

Really difficult to project for games. It is a risk-based discussion we are unable to have right now. The current prevailing mentality is zero risk tolerance for non-critical activities.
Resuming practices is the first step back. Maybe practices with physical distancing can get a go ahead by July. There are major benefits to youth sports - health, fitness, socialization, fun. There is a lot to consider before just labeling scores of activities as non-critical and going into a protective crouch for a year. |
Your welcome. FYI if you go to https://coronavirus.maryland.gov/ you can see key stats daily and trend graphs on key metrics for opening. You will see that the key metrics, deaths, hospitalizations, ICU has been decreasing for the past few days. Data is a bit irregular on weekends - but hope this continues for the sake of everyone. Also per the press conference, he is not looking for a complete straight line but overall trend - that is very common in data science fields. His hyper focus on nursing home population which had accounted for 50 percent of the deaths is also helpful. |
We are long way from meeting the metrics for reopening based on these stats. For Maryland, there are 989 new cases in the last 24 hours and only 76 released from isolation (recovered) during the same period. This means that the number of sick people has increased by more than 900 people. |
Youre looking at the wrong metrics. New cases will always keep increasing as we're testing more ppl now. Focus is on covid hospital admissions, icu admissions' and deaths. And he's not looking for a consistent decrease- his press conference said just a plateau for unspecified amount of time. |
Hogan is not using the metrics from the White House plan for re-opening. Please read Hogan’s plan and listen to the press conference. He also said explicitly cases will go up because of increased testing as well as universal testing at nursing homes. You may not agree with the plan but that is what hogan outlined for MD And the trends on the MD site for re-opening as outlined in his plan on declining. |
Events will overtake statistics in both directions. National and state lockdowns occurred without rationale or specific criteria for ending. Reopening will occur along the same lines. People speak as if there is a choice when it comes to the lockdown. At some point, the absence of any plausible mechanism for subsidizing a global or even national shutdown without knowing or whether or when we will have full proof and widely available vaccine will make reopening inevitable. Plus, people will just leave their houses en masse. I am not making a judgment about whether this is right. It is simply inevitable. And if you don’t think so, explain the funding mechanisms for federal state and loc governments that would make prolonged lockdown feasible? Economics and human behavior will Drive this whether you want it do so or not. |
There is difference in leaving the isolation to provide for your family or purchase groceries (necessary risk) and leaving the house to participate in a sporting event such as youth soccer (unnecessary risk). Reopening the economy is not the same as reopening youth soccer. |
The government will decide what you are allowed and not allowed to do. It is an approach that has worked so well throughout human history. I never thought that individual freedom was at risk in America. |
| I don’t think it’s likely at all. We are already hearing that there may be no fall sports at the high school. |
| Depends on format (travel, rec) but very likely. |
