How Likely Is Soccer in the Fall ? (with Games!)

Anonymous
Considering clubs are discussing fall teams and some sending out offers, how likely is fall soccer with games? Are we paying for more zoom or techne to ultimately lose another refund? Our tennis club emailed that Hogan listed tennis in phase 1. Where is soccer listed in the phases? I found the plan but could not find those details.

Phase III. If the kids are back in school, they are likely playing soccer, at least under 14. Candidly, nobody knows. You need to plan regardless and it is harmless to do so if clubs have a clear and appropriate policy for reimbursement in the event of further delay or cancellation.

Some states will allow limited, small group training in Phase 2, but I don't think we'll see things like a full team practice, tryout or game until Phase 3.

I also think that we could back peddle in the Fall, going from Phase 3 back to Phase 2 levels of closings which might shut things again.

I would not accept any offer unless there is a clause concerning their shutdown procedure or explanation of how they plan to handle that.

Soccer will not take place in 2020 at all. The clubs just want your money because they know you are all suckers. At the highest levels of these discussions, sports are not in the cards for 2020 and early 2021. Love that there is a lot of hope out there for sports, though!

actually, not likely at all. Track soccer with full return of school. When the hallways of school can fill up again at full capacity, you will see youth soccer back in play!

Actually, it’s likely by June 15th at the latest in Maryland. Youth sports will be considered Stage II in Maryland. If stage 1 goes well, you can expect Stage 2 about three weeks later. I am speaking for Maryland. I predict Hogan will start Stage 1 by the end of this coming week.

You’re wrong. He’s pretty much said as much. Keep your kids home if you want - ours will be out playing.

NP - Have you been listening to Hogan’s weekly press conferences and reading his reports. Go to conference this week and listen to him answer the reporters questions. A few in, you will hear what they are looking at opening up and he will address next week. Look at the numbers and see the trends - over time on key metrics He is looking at and also his response.

Hogan is moving quicker than DC, disregarding the guidance on new cases and focusing on a different metric. Not sure why he is in a rush compared to DC&VA

Youth soccer should not take a risk. If any club is sending out offers and asking for a deposit for security better be ready for consequences. Before giving your deposit, ask in an email what the club’s plan is, if the fall is cancelled.
