| In his mind he probably equates the size of it with those monstrosities you get at Chili’s that actually have 1600 calories in them. But he’s wrong. You’re fine. |
| People who think eating a salad will help them with their weight loss are usually delusional. I guarantee your salads are probably over 1500 calories. It doesn’t matter that it’s mostly vegetables. It’s just a mathematical equation. Calories in calories out! I remember when I was trying to lose weight and I was eating a few lbs of grapes for lunch . Guess what? I never lost anything because I was consuming too many calories. |
How do you get 1500 calories from salad veggies? |
Well mine is 350 calories sooooo |

A family size serving bowl of anything is just a bad idea. Part of reducing your appetite is making your body be okay with less food. Also, man, you're going to be sitting on the toilet the entire next day.
It's a good idea to eat from small plates. If you don't want to do that, eat from a normal plate. In the summer I like to take normal plates and slice a couple juicy tomatoes and an avocado and drizzle on some balsamic- I guess I could fit it on a small plate but it looks amazing on a big plate. But, in general, you shouldn't use bowls or plates meant to serve entire family meals as your own meal. |
Hmm, or you didn’t lose weight because of all of the sugar you were eating for lunch. |
| A few pounds of grapes = diabetes. |

Op here. Thanks all.
I have been eating a large salad for either lunch or dinner every day. It is a good way to get veggies into my diet (that used to be very carb and sugar heavy). I have been at home for the last three weeks and am eating much healthier. I have no snacks in the house and am not grabbing a sweet treat here and there. And I am replacing one of my carb meals with a salad. I don't own a working scale so I have no idea if I have lost any weight. Some days I am only eating two meals just because my schedule is out of whack and I don't have much appetite. I haven't really counted calories but it is definitely less than it was! My bowels seem to be fine...they have issues anyways and I haven't noticed any difference! |
I huge salad is not 350 calories. The cheese alone was probably 350 calories. I guess if you don’t drop a few lbs a week then you’ll know. |
| Lettuce is a free food. He needs to calm down! |
same the bigger the better the bigger the salad, the smaller the ass |

I've found that most of the people who have a problem with big salads are ones who put higher caloric components in their salads, like the ones that add meats, eggs, cheese or extra dressing. I knew one person who thought that sunflower seeds had no calories and put like three big scoops of them on, thinking they were saving calories by putting sunflower seeds instead of bacon crumbles on. Most likely your brother, based on his keto diet puts protein, dairy and higher fat components (like sunflower seeds and higher fat dressing) than you are putting on your salad. You salad was fine. He was probably just assuming there were higher calorie foods on your salad like he puts on his.
That said, the salad is a good start, but as another PP mentioned, the quantity of food is another issue. The volume of salad (huge bowl) is good as long as you only eat low calorie foods like veggies. The problem is that it does not help you decrease your appetite. Any time you eat something that has more calories, your calorie count will go up because of the volume. So it is better to find salad components that will give you longer lasting satiation without as much volume. Each individual metabolism is different, so you have to find out what components will help your diet and nutrition the most. Since we are all home-bound and you have a lot more control over the contents of your salad (as opposed to going out to restaurants or ordering take-out salads), you can start with the large salad and slowly over time adjust the portion size and the components to decrease the portion size, get your body used to less volume per meal and then add components that will help you go longer between meals. |
Lordy, it is discouraging to read this sort of ignorance. |
