Big salads?

Anonymous
I am trying to lose weight and have been eating a lot of homemade salads. Today I had one beside me while on a Zoom call with my brother. He is super into fitness and he was pretty horrified at the size of the salad I was eating. It was a big salad - it was in a family sized serving bowl BUT it was all veggies. It was my entire meal (dinner) and I hadn't had any other veggies in the day. It was a lot of spinach, tomatoes, cucumber, orange peppers, and a tiny bit of feta cheese a a light sprinkle of herb vinaigrette.

Is it problematic to eat large portion sizes of veggies?

No ... maybe he has an eating disorder.

Sounds like a Seinfeld episode!

Not a problem, but I hope you have TP.

I love big ass salads.

I was told that a big salad can be an issue because your stomach adapts to the volume of food you eat and that can mess with your hunger signals.

But, like, we gotta do the best we can.

No. Only if it's overloaded with high-calorie foods (cheese, bacon, ranch dressing, etc.).

It really depends on the dressing. I’ve done great losing weight with big salads, they make me feel so good and help keep regular

Op here. Thanks all. I feel better!

I use very little dressing. It is just a light vinaigrette and I don't like my salads to have much dressing so it is just a few sprinkles.

The feta is the only unhealthy part and I just crumbled a little on for flavor.

My brother is very particular about what he eats and he runs marathons and is really into weighing food and macros and numbers about food. He mostly does keto I think. We don't really talk about food as it bothers him that I am overweight. I was surprised he thought my big salad was an issue. He just commented on the portion size then we changed the topic

Feta isn’t unhealthy. You were doing a little volumetric diet.

Honestly though you and your brother seem a little ocd about diet and exercise.

I was totally thinking it would be a Seinfeld question when i saw the title.

I think it's pretty gross to eat a large amount of anything (portion control and small amounts of yummier things) but you have to do what works for you! If you think I'm gross for eating a small cheese and peanut butter, cool!
