Isn’t that what student ID numbers are for? |
Plus, the numerous other ways that MCPS can differentiate between two kids who have the same name. MCPS does not need to institute a third gender option in order to help teachers differentiate between two kids who have the same name. |
The Real ID Act requires that gender be listed on driver's licenses. Most non-binary people would probably prefer your solution, but current Federal law does not allow it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_ID_Act |
I can’t believe I’m acknowledging your hateful question, but in the event that you’re not a bigot and rather just an idiot, you should know that adding the option to classify gender X costs $0, and smaller class sizes costs millions. |
If you bigots keep supporting morons like Trump and DeVos, then class size is going to increase, not get smaller. |
No need to call anyone moron. To the PP the other poster is entitled to her/his opinion. MCPS can’t focus on smaller class sizes when it’s responding to outside lobby groups trying to force their agenda on children |
Why is it hateful to ask how many students this actually affects? Is this really an issue for a large percentage of students in MCPS? This particular thing may cost $0, though I doubt it. Must have been some time and energy involved to change all the forms. Plus the teacher trainings that is now involved to make sure teachers are appropriately acknowledging kids who call themselves Gender X. |
Only in your weird world! |
Should MCPS only do things if they're an issue for a large percentage of students in MCPS? |
You’ve missed a few news stories from Connecticut then. |
Well, it is a public school system. With limited funding. And the public school’s mission should really be focused on educating kids. Not on pandering to political pressure. |
| My girls are going triple xxx this year! |
Well, there goes special education. And the magnet programs. And the arts. And sports. And... After all, all of those things aren't issues for a large percentage of students in MCPS. Seriously, I don't understand the idea on this forum that [this stuff] is education and [all of this other stuff] isn't. As though kids were widgets instead of people. |

Good. I'm sure this is a welcome development for kids who identify as non-binary or trans* and am glad to see it.
My kids aren't GNB or GNC but it doesn't hurt them for this option to be presented. Just as my kids aren't dyslexic but I don't begrudge services for those who are. |
Trans kids aren't gender neutral. They identify as male or female - just not the gender they were born with. X is for those who identify as something other than make or female. As for the PP who mentioned the cost being zero - not true. We added asdrional gender options in my organization and it was quite an undertaking. Anywhere gender is asked electronically, those dorms need to be modified as well as any database that information feeds into. You alaonneed to change all hard copy forms. It was a pretty big project for us. |
