Where do preppy women shop these days?

I grew up in a preppy bastion of the NE. Agree with the person who said NE preppy and southern preppy are different.

I would say most preppy ppl source classicly styled items from a variety of brands.

J.Crew used to have lots of great stuff but the overall quality has declined. So while you dont go to Jcrew and buy a whole wardrobe anymore its about finding the right pieces. For example, I bought this linen blazer in navy this past spring and I love it: https://www.jcrew.com/p/womens_category/blazers/singlebreasted/parke-blazer-in-stretch-linen/H9710?color_name=navy

Suits: Theory, Brooks Brothers
Denim: Paige, Madewell
Breton shirts: https://www.saint-james.com/us/
Sporty outerwear: https://www.patagonia.com/home/
Polo Ralph Lauren for sweaters and button downs

And yes I buy 1-2 pieces at Talbots each year but I always find out what its made of and if necessary size up and get it tailored.

I agree with this. J. Mac has some great pieces. It's just that they also sell old lady jackets.

+2 to all this. Their quality is fantastic as well.

So I googled J. Mac and nothing came up. Where is their website?

Yes, their T-shirt’s and tops are pretty indestructible. Kind of like the old Ralph Lauren cable sweaters and LL bean totes... built like a brick house!

And their dresses really hold up well, too. I haven't ever noticed about the jackets but I don't really wear jackets.

IMO, southern preppy ppl wear more dresses and skirts and are more style-driven; they also wear more brighter colors and (lily-type) patterns.

NE preppy is oriented towards cold weather so more pants (denim or khakis) and cable-knit sweaters. The color pallet is navy blue, hunter green and burgundy and neutrals that complement like camel. In summer they mix-in mid-blues and white.

Its basically the difference between Reese Witherspoon (in real life) and the style of the character her boyfriend dumped her for in Legally Blonde.

I’m the first poster in this chain and the dresses are great for work travel. The Catalina Cloth barely wrinkles at all. If it does wrinkle a bit, just hang it up in the bathroom while you shower - definitely no iron needed. It’s amazing.

Ha! That is an excellent point. I was at an all-day meeting the other day and it was all women. At the end of the day we all stand up. Most of us looked rumpled and disheveled but the one gal wearing a J McLaughlin dress looked ready to go out to dinner.

Just google this and ACK:

The store has a mix. Plenty of nice things. They carry a mix of brands. The last thing I bought there was a Trina Turk dress.

I’m also a big fan of JMac and have seen plenty of 30 somethings wearing it, as well as older women. Their men’s stuff is nice too. I have tons of dresses, skirts, tops and sweaters from there. Not as much a fan of the pants.
