| Some people actually are called Muffy, but fewer today. It's more of a retro 50's-60's name. I like Banana Republic and Brooks Brothers. |
NE preps don't strike me as overstyled or insta-ing about fashion. Southern preps, maybe. |
Reese is a real life southern prepster.
Allison Williams is a real life northern preppy |
I went to high school - New England prep school in the 80s - with a girl named Muffy. |
You guys are nuts. I WENT to a Providence private day school (Wheeler, Lincoln) and I think they are totally fine. You don't have to be a total ascetic to be a New England prep. And going to URI def does not rule you out of being part of that class. |
Her dog is so cute!! |
Right- but now it's not a NE prep name anymore. |
| Draper James has some great dresses and high quality tops |

Yeah, she's fallen from grace, but if you look at her style, hair (that simple shoulder/mid-length straight blondish cut) and background, Felicity Huffman is actually a pretty good example of northeast preppy.
Huffman was born in Bedford, New York, into a wealthy Christian family, the daughter of Grace Valle (née Ewing; 1921–2009) and Moore Peters Huffman (1910–1987), a banker and partner at Morgan Stanley. She's descended from the Peters Cartridge Company and King Mills Powder Company fortunes. Huffman attended The Putney School, a private boarding high school in Putney, Vermont. |
W/ the exception of the paint-splattered jeans...I like the painting in the Reese photo! |
Muffy is not a new-money southern prep name. It's an old, vintage nickname. |
|
"Muffy" is a nickname. "muffy" is actually usually Mary, Margaret, etc.
Bitsy, Mimi, Bunny, Topsy, etc. are also nicknames. My family insisted on calling me "Mimi" when I was growing up and I hated it. |

dressier occasions: Brooks Brothers, Ralph Lauren (some of it), J Mclaughlin casual: LL Bean, Patagonia, Arcteryx, Barbour, GH Bass |
A friends DD just graduated from Putney. Isn't it very artsy/crunchy rather than preppy? |
