Anyone who reads the VA boards knows they have similar complaints. And right now the speculators are pushing up VA prices based on the hopes that Amazon employees will pay the inflated amounts..not the time to if you do not have $$ to risk.

If you believe complaints on DCUM are representative of anything in the real world, you are mistaken. The VA schools forum is all about how VA schools are a disaster. As is the MD schools forum. And the private school forum is also full of complaints. And for that matter, the relationships forum is full of complaints about marriage and the family forum is full of complaints about in-laws. DCUM is wildly disproportionately full of posts full of complaints. And this is because if you are reasonably happy with your school, neighborhood, spouse, family, etc. — which most people are! — they do not post here.

Yes, on my street in Chevy Chase, the exodus is occurring. All families have left for greener pastures and the foreclosure rate is spiking. Thieves are running rampant in order to steal copper from the abandoned homes.

I don't go out at night for fear of being mugged or being mistaken for a rival gang member. Corner boys selling H have replaced crossing guards and soccer moms.

The decay is only accelerating. They've renamed the once tony enclaves.

I find more leaving Virginia because they are tired off crossing a river to get anywhere they really want to go.

This just seems to contradict actual census numbers which show that while growth has slowed, it is still growing. The population growth slowed to .41% in 2018, but over the last non-calendar year, growth is estimated at .77%.

The percentage of Asians also seems to grow each year.

To be fair there has always (since the 80s at least) been a Chevy Chase Section 8, the “something isn’t quite like the rest” parts on the eastern stretches near silver spring. Kids at BCC have been making fun of that area for decades

Its bene going on for years. Before it was to Howard and AA counties. More tech jobs are in VA so it makes sense to move vs. commute.

Parts of Silver Spring that fed into BCC like Summit Hills was really bad when I grew up. We were not allowed to visit friends there.
