Shrevewood Elementary

Timberlane is a different pyramid from Shrevewood (split feed to McLean and Falls Church HS) so I don't see that as an option for this upcoming rezoning. That's more likely to occur in a county-wide rezoning effort.

I agree with the above poster. I expect some of Shrevewood will be moved to Stenwood (I'm looking specifically at the condos/apartments/THs near Dunn Loring/Merrifield that are now zoned to Stenwood). And then some of Stenwood would likely need to shift to Freedom Hill to keep Stenwood from becoming overcrowded.

They could make Timber Lane a split feeder to Marshall and Falls Church (it's closer to Marshall than to McLean) and move part of Shrevewood there, and then move more of Westgate or Lemon Road from Marshall to McLean. But the more likely and easier scenario is moving part of Shrevewood to Stenwood and, if needed, part of Stenwood to Freedom Hill.

I wonder if there's a Stenwood poster who keeps raising the Timber Lane option because she doesn't want Shrevewood kids moved to Stenwood.

A friend is at Stenwood and concerned about a shift to Freedom Hill. When would this likely be effective?

As per the FY 2020-2024 CIP (https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/pdf/adopted-FY2020-24.pdf) - the boundary change would be effective in Fall 2021.

I saw that but that only referenced a shift for Shrevewood. Would anything between Stenwood and Freedom Hill be part of that boundary study and happen at the same time, or is that only moving Shrevewood kids for fall of 21?

Freedom Hill parent. Why is she concerned? I like FH and would rather it remain a smaller school.

I'm the one who posted about Timberlane, and I don't have an ulterior motive, I just mentioned it based on location and I think according to the CIP, it's has more available capacity than some of the other nearby schools - although I think most of the nearby schools are under capacity. I have always thought it was weird that the condos and apartments by the Dunn Loring metro are zoned to Shrevewood and not Stenwood or Freedom Hill. Does anyone know why? Is it just that none of that was there when the zoning was done?

For what it's worth, I think we live physically closer to Lemon Lane than anywhere else. It's also weird that the apartments near Whole Foods are zoned to Shrevewood while the townhouses literally next door next to Marshall High School are zoned to Lemon Lane. It almost seems like there was a conscious decision to zone all the local apartment buildings to Shrevewood.

I should clarify, I have a child at Shrevewood and we're happy with the school (other than the fact that it is severely overcrowded).

If the Shrevewood kids move in 2021, it is likely that other kids would have to move to make room and balance capacity at that time. Unless all the Shrevewood kids were moved to an under-capacity ES.

Honestly - all she's said is she looked at Freedom Hill and prefers Stenwood for her kid. "She's got her reasons"

Marshall literally sits within the Freedom Hill district. At one point, Freedom Hill got overcrowded and FCPS decided to move part of it to another school. Shrevewood was already pretty full, so they moved part of Freedom Hill to Lemon Road, which was under capacity at the time (it was before Lemon Road got the AAP center). That was when Lemon Road picked up some areas on the same side of Route 7 as Marshall.

Given the overcrowding at Shrevewood and Stenwood's location, I don't see a scenario where the part of the Shrevewood attendance area outside the Beltway does not move to Stenwood in a few years. The only question is however many other school boundaries need to get adjusted at the same time.

Honestly, I wish they would just renovate the Dunn Loring school or the one in Pimmit Hills and make a couple small local elementaries.

I've been very happy with Shrevewood as far as the teachers are concerned. The administration has left plenty to be desired, however with a new principal coming in hopefully things will look up. My son is entering the third grade here for context.

What is the class size like? How are the specials teachers? What are the principal and assistant principal like? Overall, how is the community? Is the PTA friendly to working parents? That sort of thing...

We had Ms Mc Dowell for 1st and she was great. New principal; AP Holley is awesome. PTA is very active.
