Shrevewood Elementary

The straightforward route would be for the area west of the beltway (Dunn Loring) to switch to Stenwood, and then the northern half of Stenwood's area goes to Freedom Hill. I have no idea whether the northern Stenwood families would raise enough of a major stick to avoid going to Freedom Hill.

In theory, you could also take the area along Idlywood north of 66 and send that to Lemon Road, and then some of Lemon Road goes up to Westgate, but that looks less straightforward and I don't know if it would be enough kids out of Shrevewood.

The real problem here is that any boundary adjustment is going to have to include at least 2 other elementary schools since Shrevewood is surrounded by schools that are projected to be at or above capacity for the long haul. (Stenwood 97%, Lemon Road 96%, Timber Lane 94%, Pine Spring 117%, Fairhill 108%, all from pg 88).

Couldn't they do it piecemeal to spread the kids out and have it make more sense when looking at a map? The Dunn Loring apartments go to Stenwood. The townhomes/SFHs behind the golf course/funeral home go to Timber Lane. Some of the houses between Shreve and West go to Timber Lane (we have friends at Shrevewood whose next door neighbors go to Timber Lane). The apartments and SFHs off of Pimmit near the Whole Foods go to Lemon Road. All of those schools are physically closer to those neighborhoods than Shrevewood.

In other words, please move all the lower-income areas at Shrevewood to other schools, including one that is already Title I? Some of the areas you are describing have very few SFHs. LOL.

Oh, like the Million dollar homes off of Pimmit Drive? And the $2000-3000 a month apartments and townhomes near Dunn Loring?? Oh, ok.

I thought about that too, but part of that is also the bus situation.

If you are only moving the Dunn Loring apartments to Stenwood, but leaving the rest of the area west of the Beltway to Shrevewood, then that probably requires another bus route.

Same problem applies when you move the golf course/Hyson Ln. houses and townhouses to Timber Lane, but leave the apartment buildings next to the cemetery as a feeder to Shrevewood.

The Westwood Park/Poplar Heights neighborhood between Shrevewood and Timber Lane is already split, and even if you move the boundary a bit (Tower St.) that is probably just a handful of kids. You can't really take Allan or those parts of Fairwood since they literally border the Shrevewood property.

The Whole Foods area is possible because it is already split up. The taller towers (Eaves/Idylwood) currently go to Shrevewood, and the garden apartments behind Whole Foods are split between Lemon Road and Freedom Hill.

I should correct myself on the 2nd point. The area between the golf course and cemetery is already split up. So, we see in a couple of cases, there and near Whole Foods, where FCPS has already split up the high-density/lower-income locations between a couple of schools. Without wholesale changes, I don't see them changing that to have those neighborhoods go to one school.

Oh, I didn't realize the Los Pueblos Way apartments go to a different school. My child's bus drives down Pimmit Drive and I just assumed it picked up all of the kids in that area - the Idylwood condos, the big apartment building, the large homes, and the apartments off of Los Pueblos. That's silly that the kids on one side of the street would go to a different school than the kids across the street!

Happens all the time with larger streets. Breaking up the multi-family housing in Tysons/Pimmit among Freedom Hill, Lemon Road and Shrevewood is a good thing.

That map is so jacked up.

- the kids off of Pimmit Dr by Whole Foods go to Shrevewood, Freedom Hill, AND Lemon Road. --> They should send anyone North of Idylwood between Pimmit Drive and 495 (including both sides of Pimmit Drive) to Freedom Hill. That would send a good mix of SESs because it would include the apartments, townhouses, huge houses, and small to medium sized houses.

- Why is there a little cut out south of 66 off of Gallows that sends kids to Stenwood? Oh, I know, those are the SFHs!! God forbid Stenwood get kids who live in apartments! --> The kids west of Gallows Road between 66 and Lee Hwy should go to Fair Hill or Stenwood. Those apartments are mostly white and Asian kids.

The golf course townhouses have many Shrevewood families and I don’t think they’re going to be quiet if they get moved to another school. They should remain a part of Shrevewood because the pockets around them make more sense to be moved at the moment.

Huh? The area south of 66 currently zoned for Stenwood is apartments and townhouses, and not SFHs.

And why do you think it’s fair to toss kids now at Shrevewood out of the Marshall pyramid into a Falls Church feeder (Fairhill)?

Your suggestions are a combination of misinformed and obnoxious.

Wow - some people have way too much time n their hands - how do you all even know which schools feed to which others? I mean, I did the research when I was buying a house and then didn't pay attention to anyone else, lol!

That would suggest you probably shouldn’t be weighing in on boundary changes for Shrevewood.

Could it be sufficient to rezone the Dunn Loring area to Stenwood? It's literally walking distance, and because of the condos it's densely populated. Or is there no way that would move enough children?

I don’t know why FCPS should pay much attention to people complaining about moving from one Marshall feeder (Stenwood) to another (Freedom Hill). Especially when the areas that will be moved to Stenwood from Shrevewood will end up balancing the demographics among the three schools.

It's touchier than you think. Especially since neighbors right down the road from the northernmost part of the Stenwood boundary pushed and got moved to Vienna Elementary.

There is no one school solution to Shrevewood, because everything nearby is near or above capacity. They will end up having to divide the excess population between at least Stenwood, Lemon Road, and probably Timber Lane.

Nope. It’s just part of Shrevewood to Stenwood and, if necessary, part of Stenwood to Freedom Hill.

Timber Lane is under capacity, but PPs are saying they won't rezone there because it feeds to McLean High School.
