What's the real story behind MadLax and Blackwolf founders?

Anonymous
A key to any legit club is the tournaments. DC Express, Next Level, VLC, and Madlax all are in the good tournaments. Blackwolf does some in the fall, but their summer tournaments, like Baltimore Summer Kickoff, are 2nd tier events. They are not in Naptown or Crabfeast (the two biggest local events). Why? I also didn't like how they dressed for some of their summer games, different pinnies/shorts. Looked sloppy.

Uniforms? Who cares. I like the look when a team goes the Penn State route. However I think they are playing in events that fit the talent. ‘22 team has 3 good players and ‘23 team’s best players left for Madlax and DCE. The rest could not make NL ML VLC or DCE. They should play events with Cavalier and Top Caliber. I do not think they beat those teams either.

I've had experience at Madlax and it was subpar. Cabel losing his mind for a bit in an email exchange was immature and inexcusable but if that were his only fault I would chalk it up to an anomaly but I first hand witnessed some things that made us immediately pull our son from the program at the conclusion of the season. My son was approached about joining Blackwolf and after a bit of searching we decided that the character of the coach is paramount. I have no personal interaction with Coach Trig but on the list of things that you don't recover from in life, I think sexual contact with a minor is close to the top.

We've been at VLC and have seen the progression of the talent and the coaching is without question quality. I believe good players can thrive anywhere but I think that as parents we have to put our kids around men (and women) of good character. I've interacted with the NL coach and found the same quality of coaching and character. In the end that should be the standard. Not college recruiting. College is not the destination, its just a station along the way. As cool as the PLL may be, I don't think any of should be hoping our son is the starting FOGO for Chaos and start looking for the club that can get them there.

I can’t get the link to open for some reason. Was he a teenager with another teenager or was it worse?

I think the link and those associated with the story have been professionally scrubbed.

You are an ignoramus and you are embarrassing yourself by flaunting your ignorance.

My DS is in his fourth year of travel lacrosse and I have never encountered any "ne'er do wells". He has been with great coaches and great kids, and has had a tremendous experience.

NOT listed on SO registry which one would think would be the source of truth here.

The offense might be over 10 years old. With a clean record, it can be removed.

What? you have a bunch of boys show up wearing diff pinnies and shorts and that doesn't send a message to college coaches that the club coaches don't give a crap. they players look like a bunch of individuals doing their own thing and this once very good program ends up looking like a last minute pick-up team.

If the kids can play college coaches don't care what the uniforms look like. The reason the team looks like a bunch of individuals or last minute pick up team is because they do not practice very much as a team and did not start the teams prior to HS where ML, NL, DCE teams may have been playing together for years. Also, the '22 team has a few good players and the talent falls off. Players on that team and in that program are there to showcase themselves not play as a team. Now that they are not getting the talent kids will leave. 23 team lost the top players they had.

The real story is that Cabell is a good guy, who has built a very nice business. People complain about the fees, but people often complain about fees in youth sports. If your kid is super talented and you have a financial hardship, I'd assume that he would be happy to work out an arrangement. Many parents who paid his fees look back and say it was well worth it. Along the way, hundreds of boys have gotten into good colleges with his help and the help of the guys he hires who coach on his staff. He has hundreds of former players who are fond of him and are glad that he was their coach. He is a super competitive guy. He wrote a few harsh emails, and the recipient decided to put them on Deadspin many years ago. I knew the parties involved and it did not surprise me that there was a conflict that got to that point--i.e., it takes two to tango, as they say. One consequence of that is that Cabell has been constantly haunted by an anonymous poster on this board who has it in for him and the Blackwolf guy. Personally, I did not always see eye to eye with Cabell, but am glad my son played for him and his guys for a good 7 or 8 years. My son is too. He runs a professional organization, especially in the youth sports industry. That pretty much sums up the "real story" on Maddux from a guy who knows him a lot better than whoever keeps trying to trash him.

Yup. Not a ML or BW parent, but no need to keep rehashing old stuff, it's boring.

I wish my DC never got involved in lacrosse and all the bad apples, physical risks and lax bro culture. It's not just Maxlax. Lacrosse a cesspool.

Yes, he wrote a few harsh emails threatening children and their parents by saying he would blackball them if their kids didn't stick with the program. That's not harsh or competitive.
He also runs a program continually caught cheating by playing kids from older rosters down onto younger rosters. The entire program had to forfeit at the Hershey tournament last summer and one of their teams had to forfeit in this year's HoCo playoffs. We aren't talking about kids born prior to the US guideline of 9/1. He plays kids enrolled in an older class in lower class divisions.

Still that is nothing compared with the history of BW guy. That stated there are good programs run by good people.
