Does that mean you've never had a weight problem? If you have had a weight problem, but you were doing IF naturally all along, does that mean it doesn't work for you? |
That’s not try. iF is about lowering your insulin levels so that you can tap into stored fat while you are not eating. You don’t want to calories restrict as well because that will lower your basal metabolic rate. So when you fears, you should feats. When you fast, you should have NO calories. But when I eat, I eat a full day’s calories over two meals and sometimes one! (I eat a lot of fat.). I’ve lost 70 pounds this way! |
Disagree. That's calorie restriction, not IF. The point of IF is to regulate insulin and/or promote autophagy. |
Ugh so sorry for the typos - typing quickly on phone. I mean, FEaSt when you are not fasting. Ideally, low can so your insulin stays low. Insulin isn a fat storage hormone. If you snack all day, your insulin stays high and you can’t tap into stored fat. By restricting your eating window, you e a lease stored fat. But EAT when you eat in order to keep up your metabolism! You don’t want to be like people on the Biggest Loser who gain it all back, not because they aren’t still eating well and exercising like mad, but because all of that calorie restriction wrecked their metabolism. I’m a 5’7” woman and eat 1700-2200 calories in my eating windows and STiLl lose weight. |
I do the 16:8 fast and have been losing weight slowly but steadily. I was never a big breakfast person so it wasn’t a huge sacrifice. Basically I finish eating by 630/7 and I don’t eat the next day until 12 or 1230. I might start going longer to see faster Results. It’s a good place to start and is pretty easy. |
Hi, I'm the person who you're quoting. You're correct. What I meant to write was that it's about appetite correction, not calorie restriction. I'm still learning a lot of the terminology. The group I follow is based on the book Delay, Don't Deny, and it goes into all of the things you mentioned re: insulin regulation and autophagy. I honestly am not as focused on those areas, I'm more in it for the appetite correction (and the weight loss). |

I do 12/12. Abstain 8pm-8am. My day starts at 5am so I do need to hold out for 3 hours before i have a piece of fruit.
I am super healthy and never hungry so I never binge. I always eat dessert -- a small amount. I usually eat it before dinner, as soon as i get home. Denying yourself food will just make you binge. I'll bet you are thinking about food when you are in a 9am meeting. Eat protein 3 times a day and you will not be hungry. I am vegetarian and even I can do this. Will sometimes substitute an avocado for protein as it really fills me up. |
Ha! I never ate breakfast until I was pregnant and was told I needed to do so. And I was much thinner. I guess I need to start skipping it again. |
12:12 is not a fast. So you’re opposed to fasting? I’m not sure what to make of your post. |
NP. A 12:12 fast follows the rules for IF. My kids are young, we eat dinner around 5. So I'm more like 14:10. And I've lost a couple pounds merely by not eating anymore after dinner until breakfast. |
Not sure what “rules” you refer to as they are all different. 12 hours isn’t enough to notice a benefit of lowered insulin or any benefit. I’m sorry but calling it “fasting” is ridiculous. |
| 12:12 can help 50 percent of population which does not follow any discipline. 16:8 works for me much better. I would love to get to 18:6. My body has been shedding lbs like crazy and my energy levels are higher. |
This exactly. They used to claim that you were sabotaging ypur diet if you shipped breakfast. No apparently it is the right thing to do. But someone gave it another name, probably to sell books and make it sound new. |

I stop eating early in the evening, wake up at 5 am, but eat breakfast like meal (healthy, veg/protein but low carb) at 10.30-11.30 am which gets me to 15+ hours. Sometimes schedule requires something different and I'm less hours, but that's ok.
Never been obese, maybe 15+ extra pounds at a few points, always fit, but everyone in the family has diabetes. Been prediabetic for over a decade post gestational diabetes. Grew up eating breakfast first thing, felt like I had to eat early on and broke the habit with this. I feel a 1000x better now and easy way to to keep my blood sugars in check. Very easy to do. Would say its not a fast weight loss - just very slow and steady, but I never lose weight easy, not even those first 3-5 lbs. |
Don’t you still have to eat at a deficit to lose weight? If I ate my basal metabolic rate worth in calories using OMAD , won’t that just replinish any energy my body used regardless if the energy was pulled from fat stores? |
