Dog just peed in his crate!

You might want to call the emergency vet or your vet's after hours line.

It was human food that I cut up, put in a kong and froze, as a long lasting treat he could havevwhile we were away. If I give him something room temp, he’ll eat it in 5 seconds. I wanted this to last. I have done this successfully with cheese, which he loves. I think the sausage might be saltier, though.

You just made me remember that he had a sausage a week ago as an aid to get a pill down. No after effects, but he was not crated at the time.

Is he still acting subdued? Any weakness in his hind quarters? Have you offered him water?

OP here. I put the kids to bed and found him eating his dinner and drinking normally. Phew! I’ll keep observing him.

Why do I need to watch the hindquarters, PP? Is it for a UTI?

Poor darling. Why he normally goes till 10pm, and did it today prior... Living creature, you know. That you expect to go for 10 hours without peeing and pooping. I just don't understand why do you have a dog? So he is in a crate almost all day apart from a walk? So, till 6ish on a normal day? See, my dog will walk to the door when he needs to go outside. Think about your dog being in agony for maybe hours, because they do this only if unavoidable. You are a terrible person.

If he is healthy, he is afraid. That is why he would act subdued, he was trained that this is bad to do and he is anxious and afraid. For the life of me I can't understand why OP has a dog.

Again , please read. The dog is not crated during the day, only for short periods afternnon or evening, and not every day.

Wow, you guys have serious reading comp issues! It’s stunning.

I would be worried that his kidneys might have been stressed. But it sounds like he ate a salty treat and likely drank a lot of water afterward and then simply couldn't hold it until 10.

It's a good sign that he's eating and drinking normally. Just keep an eye on him.

When I go out, and always take my dog out before I leave, especially if it has been a couple of hours. This is such a common sense dog ownership rule that I wonder if you are fit to have a dog.

Thanks, PP. Will do. I’m relieved someone else apart from me is rational on this board

Fine, sorry for not reading, but please explain how come you are home this whole time and you don't let your dog out for 8 hours?

We used to do this when he was little, but for several months now he has done fine being occasionnally crated without a pee. Understand that this is a large breed dog, not a small dog.

But I realize some of you are too busy trying to accuse me of animal cruelty that you are beyond rational discussion. Reminds me of the political forum

He does not need to. He is a large breed. He has two long walks and one short walk every day. Ask your vet.

I have large breed dogs and I always let them outside before I head out, even if I think I won't be gone long. Things come up and you can get delayed.

Imagine trying to hold it for an hour or more...poor pup. Now you know, Op. I'm glad that he sounds like he's going to be o.k.
