They have a 70% admission rate. And when they said they were going to be more selective (56% acceptance), they went to the waitlist hard. |
| Wow, no one's making the obvious joke? A much more mature bunch here than I expected. |
not for engineering, plus Penn State is easier to get into. |
they get deleted when they are posted. |
Did he have his Eagle Scout? There was a defined line for tech on his HS naviance and he was right on it. |
How many were pulled off the waitlist? I'm assuming a larger number/percentage than in years past. |
My coworker thinks Eagle Scout is the reason his sons got into UVA, for what that's worth. |
| Wonder if the Girl Scout Gold Award also has a positive effect on college admissions? |
| Penn State has a top ranked Meteorology program. It is one of the best and largest in the country. Also, Eagle Scout shows leadership and has more weight than most other nonsense activities. That said, Grades and Test Scores matter the most. |
Yes it does |
Only for Yale, Princeton, Mills, and other notably lesbian-friendly colleges. |
You need to read up on Tech and the stats needed to get in. A lot of families were disappointed when they assumed their child was going to get in and didn't last year. This year is going to be worse. Applications are way up at all the in-state schools. You can't compare acceptance rate at a top flight public school to a private one. They serve entirely different types of students bodies. Those that apply to Tech are applying because they want the tech majors such as engineering, architectuure, animal husbandry, and other tech subjects. They are funneled into the system by their public school counselors who know which Virginia university would be a good fit based upon Naviance and their prior experience. The college counselors also write one letter of recommendation (even to Tech which sometimes doesn't ask for it). The counselors know you need a 4.0++ to get into Tech Engineering so will suggest the student apply to other more suitable Tech schools if the Va in-state student doesn't have the requisite stats. Hence, you get only the students who are have the requisite stats apply. It's quite difficult to get into some of the majors at Tech - especially those overrun by the OOS and international students. |

Google scholarships and Eagle Scout: Official NESA scholarships range from $1,000 to a whopping $50,000 and are awarded based on academic success and/or merit. NESA academic scholarship applicants must be Eagle Scouts graduating high school and entering college in the year for which they apply for a scholarship.Feb 5, 2013
Where to find scholarship money for Eagle Scouts - Bryan on Scouting https://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/.../where-to-find-scholarship-money-for-eagle-scouts/ |
| I used to dismiss Eagle Scouts as goody two shoes, but looking into how much work and dedication goes into it, I'm more impressed than I once was. |

I think some colleges, I've heard UVa anecdotally, put more weight on it than others. I will say that my DS who graduated last year is an Eagle Scout, and while he's a pretty good student, this was his only significant EC and he was accepted to a fairly disproportionate amount of his reach schools. No way to tell for sure if that was it, but it's the only thing I could point to.
