| It does transfer and the results are unclear. I’d pass. |

This post is in the "tweens and teens" forum. OP, are you a teen with a baby? If so, please reach out for parenting help. Look up "women's center" and find the one nearest you to call for help finding a parenting group you can attend regularly(you can take your baby with you to many such groups). The INOVA hospital chain also has new mom groups. You need support and a safe space for asking advice. Please do not smoke pot or drink while you have a baby -- even if you do not breastfeed. You need to be 100 percent aware and sober whether or not you breastfeed.
If you are not a teen mom and posted here by mistake-- STILL do not smoke (or anything else). See the posts above. Get evaluated for post partum depression as a poster above says. |
I’m not OP but omg even I don’t have a “couple bites” of edibles that would be so much. A single hit from a vape can change how you feel. The amount of milk transfer is tiny tiny. Can it impact a developing brain? Seems quite possible. But your analogy fails because of portion size which is apparently due to ignorance. |
| Why would you do this?! Why not just stop breastfeeding? Have we really gotten to the point where we think the mostly non-existent benefits of breastfeeding > exposing your baby to marijuana? Crazy. Utter crazy. |
Mostly non-existent benefits--? ? |
2nd poster, it is best that you never give advice on baby care, and if you have not yet had children, wait several years until you grow up. |
I have a 2 month old but it didn’t destroy my ability to evaluate evidence. It’s like saying “would you give your 2 yr old a Long Island iced tea?” Obviously breast milk can contain alcohol but nowhere near a high proof liquor. Edibles often have high high concentrations of THC. A more accurate anology would be, would you give your 2 yr old a muffin made in a bowl in which edible batter was made, knowing it hadn’t been washed between and the muffin now definitely has some THC content? And my answer is, maybe if my kid was really hungry and that’s all I could give her? |

THC is passed to the baby and while long-term studies on infants have not been done (due in large part to the risk of the infant) there have been studies indicating a two to three-fold increase of psychiatric disorders in individuals who were used cannabis prior to puberty. The impact on brain development is certainly quite a risk.
However, it is worth noting, that under federal law the exposure of illegal drugs to an infant is a mandatory reporting requirement of health care providers and others to Child Protective Services -- Title 42 .§5106(b)(2)(B)(ii) of CAPTA (Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act). Many states (even COLORADO and many other "pot-friendly" states) will interpret this to include THC in an infant If your doctor or healthcare provider detects this usage while breastfeeding, they may be required to report you. In some states, like Alabama, using can be considered "chemical endangerment of a child" which is a felony with a severe prison sentence. |
Yes. Every study has concluded that there are a few short term benefits and virtually no long term benefits to breastfeeding. Certainly not enough to subject your baby to marijuana, which does transfer in not insignificant amounts. |
Take some parenting classes please. |
I've done quite a bit of research on medical mj and can say DON'T DO IT. Research the effects on teen brains - no one should be smoking regularly until brain is completely developed - which I think is mid 20s. Then it's fine. |

| This post is the epitome of selfishness. I can’t believe my eyes. |
+1 ridiculous |
It’s sad, isn’t it. So many great potential parents can’t have kids for whatever reason and then you have people like OP. It’s like the movie Idiocracy. |
