Taking friend to Costco

Here's someone who's developed a plan for gaming the system with ease and lack of conscience.

Generally, OP, it’ll depend on the cashier. You can pay for the two orders separately and have your friend reimburse you, that’s the easiest way by far. Sometimes, they don’t care that much about the name on the second check/card but sometimes they do. In any case, just keep the orders separate to make sure the amounts are fine. You could also try to pay for the first order with your card and the second with your friend’s card, they might balk at a card that doesn’t have your name on it, but most cashiers don’t care that much.

Also, you can buy gift cards and anyone can use those at Costco. So, if your friend wanted to come back without you and use those, if you buy them for her.

My sister has paid with her credit card on my Costco membership card before. Nothing was said to her.

Why do you think Costo sells memberships?

Your friend won’t be able to buy alcohol. The name on the CC must match the name on the Costco card, otherwise you can’t purchase alcohol.

I have brought my sister with me. She was buying things for a party and would never use a membership. They had no problem with it and neither did I. Why are people so upset about OP sharing her membership?

If everyone did what you're suggesting, why sell memberships?

OP here. It’s my friend’s first time. She just moved to Washington and is in a very low income. If it’s worth it she will purchase the membership. Thanks for all your help (snide remarks and all).

Subtotal and have your friend reimburse.

It's not being snide to point out that memberships are sold by Costco for a reason. The reduced prices are intended for those who've paid a yearly membership fee.

My office manager has a membership to buy sodas, water, kcups, and paper products for the office. Which means 30 of us are technically using the same membership. I think taking a friend for a one-off trip is fine.

OP, you can buy your friend a membership gift card.

Just make sure your friend doesn't buy alcohol, which will trigger carding. My former roommate and I used to share a card, but I could only use it if I didn't buy alcohol for this reason.

If she is very low income, she probably shouldn’t be buying alcohol, period.

Get a Costco cash card. They are $25 each
You do not need membership if you are shopping with one

Simply pay cash for anything over the value of the card
