New Exercise Program - Jeans Are Tight

So I doubt you’re getting much of a big fat burn if you aren’t targeting those larger muscles or doing much cardio exercise that gets your heart rate up.

have you done barre? much of the class-time is spent exhausting your glutes and quads, along with your core. It looks easy, but it's not.

Don't bother looking at the scale, it will just sidetrack you. If you feel better, stronger, more fit, keep doing what you are doing. You also probably gained thigh muscle - which is why your jeans feel tighter.

thanks PP - glad I'm not the only one who experiences this. I'm really not that concerned about the 2lbs., and I do feel so much stronger.

Muscles hold water after a hard workout so they can repair themselves. I buy all my jeans in a 2 and a 4 to accommodate my thighs/butt the day after heavy squats or deadlifts.

NP- I experienced something similar when starting bar method. They actually mention this on their website- that many people experience an initial weight gain or tightening of clothes because your muscles may bulk up in the beginning but with consistent bar classes they should lengthen. If you look at the women who have been going to bar for years (at least in my classes) , they are all very lean and toned with well defined thigh and calf muscles, but not bulky

OP here - yes, that is the specific barre I'm doing. I take Mixed-Bar 3 times a week. and yes, when I look at my instructor and some of the regulars they all have ballerina bodies so it was a real head-scratcher for me when I started experiencing tightness in my clothes.

Thanks for responding, this was really helpful!
