We already had a spin bike so just subscribe to the Peloton app - it’s $12.99/month and our iPad mounts on top of our handlebars so it’s a great alternative if you or your hubby want to have the option of watching things other than the Peloton classes and/or would prefer a different spin bike.
If you do this, are there things you miss out on that you wish you had? I think they do some tracking on the Peloton bikes, right? Does it seem worth it to have those?
PP with the same set up as the PP above. The biggest difference is that, like any spin class, the instructors give you cadence and resistance recommendations and if you don’t have a Pelo bike, your metrics may not match. So 65 resistance on a Pelo bike might be very different on your non-Pelo bike. I just estimate it the best I can. It’s not hard, especially cadence which they usually tie to the beat of the music. The other difference is that when you join a live class, the instructor can see you joined, but can’t see your metrics and you can’t “compete” with the other riders to reach the top of the leaderboard since your non-Pelo bike isn’t online. For the Beyond the Ride classes (strength training, yoga), you need to use the Pelo app on your phone or iPad anyway (it would be difficult to watch the monitor on the bike while doing the exercises), so I don’t find it cumbersome to use my iPad on the bike for the actual spin classs either. If I didn’t already have a spin bike, i’d probably splurge for a Pelo bike. But if you already have a spin bike, I’m not sure it’s worth it to get the Pelo bike.
