I wasn't a huge fan of Ted Kennedy and personally, I'm not mourning him, but when anyone dies of cancer, it's sad. I don't understand how you can be so cavalier as to post what you've posted. |
I have cancer running in the family, maybe it's coping... When someone you care rests after so much suffering it's a relief, not sadness. Sad was to watch them suffer. |

Other than this insane conversation about dying of cancer and whether or not it is sad (yes, it is, BTW), my heart goes out to the Kennedy at this time. They are a complex family, for sure, but they accomplished some amazing things. More than I can say for a lot of families I know, who are even MORE screwed up, and did NOTHING for their society.
An era is ending.... |

NP here. What you say makes sense, 12:10, but other people are feeling sad. If you are responsible for the earlier comment ("why should I be sad for one more death") without elaborating like you did later, it seems like an affront to the people who are sad. I wish you had added your elaboration earlier. Without it, it makes you sound insensitive...which I'm guessing you didn't mean to do.

| He (his office) recently resolved a major medicaid issue for my 93 y/o grandmother - enabling her to stay in the nursing home where she'd just been placed. He was known for REALLY helping his constituents. He will be missed as the Senator from Massachusetts. |
Yes, - the Chappaquiddick incident was indeed vile. How Ted maintained his career after that is amazing. My heart does go out to the Kennedy's, though. They have suffered so many tragedies and now the passing of Eunice and Ted. |
What is so amazing about this group? The Kennedy's made their fortune illegally and most had serious issues with addiction (from sex to substance abuse.) And as for Teddy, he was a drunk and a murderer. The only one that made me sad was JFK, Jr. Now THAT was a tragedy. |
Recklessness? He shouldn't have been piloting the plane as a inexperienced pilot. |
Ok, I'll meet you 1/2 way. It was a totally reckless event that led to a horrible tragedy for two families. |

Wow, there are some heartless people on DCUM. Even moreso than I thought. Maybe, instead of heartless, I should just say ignorant. Ignorance is in fact bliss, apparently. Whether or not you agree with him personally (I do not), Senator Kennedy and most of the Kennedys (and Shrivers) contributed more in their lifetimes than their critics, for certain! They were a smart family who contributed to every social strata. Some are just too ignorant to know or appreciate that, and it is indeed, their loss. For those who know better, it is indeed the end of an era. |

"For those who know better, it is indeed the end of an era."
Think there's one more Kennedy of that generation still alive. |
True, but that's because most of us are holding down full time jobs and not living off of trust funds. Is it really that hard to perform charity work when you've never had to worry about a real job, retirement, your children's education, etc. Is it really that hard to attend cocktail parties and fundraisers and receive constant adulation from people like you? We're not talking Mother Theresa here. It just cracks me up when people go on and on about how great this extremely privileged family is. I know plenty of people who get up everyday, go to some crappy job with long hours and still manage to act decently to others AND do charity work. I don't consider the Kennedys to be better people. |

Wow, no sour grapes there. Sorry your life sucks so bad, PP. No one held the Kennedys at gunpoint to perform for the greater good, either. But you keep thinking your self destructive way, seems to make you....very...unhappy.... |
