Any you just be you. |
They can want anything they want, but not a chance I'd get a 14 year old $150 sneakers every 2 months. I don't spend that on my shoes. You can buy new for under $200. I don't spend a fortune, my kid has 2-3 times what he needs and all new. |
I have never seen an UA shirt at Marshalls for a school aged kid for $4-$6. I shop there a lot. |

It's actually starting to be a bit less as they are getting older, since they don't need an entirely new wardrobe every three months. Some of their things from last summer/fall still fit (not everything, but it's not like when they were three). I got each of my two boys four new t-shirts, three new pairs of shorts, a pair of tennis shoes, a pair of crocs, two new pairs of pajamas, and a swim suit. Plus I got my oldest 5 pairs used nike basketball shorts and 5 t-shirts to run around in (his brother will just use hand me downs). I spent about $800 all together. I do this 2-3 times a year, so I probably spend about $2000/yr on clothes for two kids.

I didn't say I buy them. But it came as a shock to me when my kid actually started caring about his clothes. I miss the $12 Old Navy jeans and buying the same pair of canvas Vans over and over again. |
Not necessarily Marshalls, but a few other stores. I got some UA sneakers a year ago for $12. You have to watch the clearances. $7-8 is more reasonable for UA kids sizes. I just got 4 pair of UA boys large for about $6 each. It will be several years before my son can wear them but styles do not change that much. I wait for the 50% off clearance prices at a few stores. Buy a few sizes up. I haven't been shopping Marshalls/TJ Max lately much as their prices have gone up a lot the past two years. Ross is slightly cheaper for kids for Nike and Adidas. They don't have UA, I think or I've never seen it. $10 is to me normal price. I'd pay it if I absolutely had to, but no more.

I stopped buying Old Navy after toddler sizes except on a rare occasion. I don't like the quality/fabrics. I was paying $3-5 for jeans. Not a chance I'd pay $12 for ON. Children's Place sometimes has $4-5 jeans up to size 12 online for boys. Wait till a clearance when you can do a coupon and free shipping. (I think 12, not sure as the highest size I have put away is 10 right now, except some Larges of other brands). Their in store selection for boys sizes is very poor. We did Vans when my son was little - at the outlet they had buy one get one 1/2 off so I'd get the next size up. He prefers UA, Adidas and Nike. My son is 6 and gotten really opinionated about clothing. It started around 5. I've been averaging $10-25 for his sneakers lately. Not looking forward to the 12-16+ growth spurts and shoes... |
Depending on the age of the kids, that seems really high when you are doing used clothing for some of it and that little clothing. I'm surprised at what people at Totswap and other places will pay for used clothing. (it just sucks you only get 65% of the proceed or I'd get almost as much as I paid or the same amount back). It does get easier when they get older till they hit the big teen growth spurts. A lot of my son's summer stuff still fit but not sure if we will make it through the summer (no biggie, I have tons of teeshirts and some shorts so I'd only have to buy a few). |
| About 500 per kid, but I keep buying during the season if I see something I like. |
| I have two boys. I buy good quality clothing for the older kid that I can pass down to the younger one. Buying some cheap stuff that will be shredded by the end of summer is not worth it for me. |
|
I spend more in the late fall/early winter, near the holidays: $400/kid. Snow clothes, pajamas, holiday outfits, sweaters, boots. I usually buy middle-of-the-road quality but it still adds up.
I buy stuff intermittently through spring & summer. Probably $200/each during that season: bathing suits, flip flops, dresses, shorts, tees. |
| Have you all tried thredup? It's an online used store with lots of great deals and a lot of the merchandise is new with tags (probably because kids just didn't get to wear it) |
I don't know. Part of it is that I bought those HA pajamas that everyone keeps saying are amazing, so I spent $150 on pajamas (they never go on sale...or at least not that I have seen). I don't spend that much on used clothing. Maybe $50 total. But other than that, the shirts were about $15-20 each, same for the shorts. Shoes are $50 for sneakers and $30 for crocs. I am sure that I can buy them cheaper, but I have found that they get worn after a few washes. |
| I'm pretty cheap about my sin's clothes. I no longer buy him HAvstuff as he's 11 but he is still wearing underwear I bought him there 5 years ago and he wore those pjs (yes they do go on sale) for 3 years plus. Lands End stuff lasts too. Always buy coats there on sale that are a bit big and they last two seasons. |
pp here who just bought the HA pajamas. I'm glad to hear that he wore them for 3 years! My oldest is 7, but I have been finding as he gets older, he is wearing out stuff more rather than just outgrowing it. I bought my 4 y/o a couple of dresses from there as well. I hope they last all summer. The HM ones I bought were cheap and adorable about the first 5 times she wore them, then just looked like crap the rest of the summer. |
