| Shopping for summer/spring right now for my K and 1st grader. I think I spent about $300. Is that insane? |
|
I don't think so. I mean a pair of Keens is $50 (our essential go to summer shoe) and for a variety of shorts/ts, a few dresses, bathing suits...it adds up.
We spend more than that now that the kids are older and want brand name clothes (UA, Nike, etc) - even on sale, those items add up. I spend $90 per kid on swim trunks/rash guards alone (3 sets from Lands End on sale.) But they last all summer long, survive swimming at camp x2/day, and look great.) So, no I don't think it is that much. |
| That sounds reasonable if you include shoes, swim clothing and more. $10 per shorts, $6 per shirt, etc. I have no idea how much I spend for my 1st grader as I buy ahead so I don't usually buy much during the season except a few things we are missing or shoes. I usually try to keep shoes between $20-40. Agree UA, Nike and Adidas add more to the cost buy you can get them cheaper at discount stores (I usually buy ahead for these). |
Yeah, I bought a bunch of this stuff at Dick's in January when they were on clearance. $10 and under for shirts that are usually $25+. |
Between two kids? No, that's not insane. |
| For shoes I got them each natives, discounted on diapers.com (DCUM tip!) and sneaker/mary janes for my DD. I suspect I'll need to get new sneakers for DS and possibly DD by June, so I should round this up to $400. |
| I used to get everything for a season for under $200 for my DS. Now, at 14, he wants new $150 sneakers ever 2 months. Enjoy the bulk shopping while it lasts ES parents! |
| His winter coat was 200 |
Summer is always cheaper. |
If you think that is a lot for two kids, you just be super cheap. |
' what did you get?? I would be afraid my kid would take it to school, never to be seen again (lost, stolen, forgotten on the playground!) |
Agreed, we sometimes have two coats - a cheap coat for school and nicer for every other time. Not a chance I'd send a $200 coat to school. |
I just spent $300 for a spring and summer wardrobe for one child. My DD will still need sneakers when she outgrows what she has currently, a pool cover-up and two bathing suits. So, I figure somewhere around $375-$400 when all is said and done. I have not done this type of spending for my DS in a couple of years ( his growth majorly slowed down). However, he has entered pre-puberty and I expect to see a big growth spurt where I will be replacing everything soon. |
Honestly, I think I am undercounting. As I think about it, and adding in new sneakers, it's going to be around $450-500. |
Those are ok prices you can get at Marshall's and TJ Max. I try to pay $4-6 for UA, Adidas and Nike, but sometimes pay $10. For boys, its easier to buy ahead, especially when they are s, m, l, and xl. When you do jeans/pants with sizing it is harder. I also buy the next size up sometimes if the shoes are a good deal. I just got two pair of sketchers for $10 each, but they don't last very long as they aren't well made. Last pair of adidas were $15. I have a few bins of the next few sizes of clothing. Just need a few more things (like winter coats). |
