Still bitter about that rejection letter I see? Don't you think it is time now to get over your anger with Beauvoir and move on? Yes, it is the hardest school in DC to get into so obviously there will be many people rejected and unfortunately many haters who have a vengeance against the school so they start all sorts of threads filled with untruths. You may want to consider seeing a therapist for your anger issues - really b/c it is not normal.

Please. What makes you think the poster above was rejected from Beauvoir? On the contrary, she sounds like she knows what she's talking about.

Some advice: don't assume that anyone who criticizes a school was rejected from it. It might make you feel good to think that - it's certainly the most facile response to criticism - but it's pretty feeble as a rebuttal.

And BTW, I'm not the poster above, but I am a Beauvoir parent.

I hope she doesn't know what she's talking about. Our DC will be attending Beauvoir in the fall, and I hope the "take yourself and your child very seriously" and the "no humor permitted" was a joke.

You don't really believe that Beauvoir is the hardest school for admissions, do you?

Yes, besides Sidwell...

The odds are much better at B with all the slots available than at St. Patrick's.

There's no tag allowed at recess.

i wish i had known that all the other parents were just as insecure as i was. i would not have been so miserable. but one of the great things about Beauvoir is that it instills much confidence in its graduates. my dc will never be the wreck that i was/am.

A lot more people apply to Beauvoir plus the threshold is much higher at B - the scores are much higher...I don't know anyone whose child has below a 95% on testing

It is like comparing apples and oranges... These two schools are not even in the same tier...

Getting into Beauvoir, unlike ANY other are private school, is more than just scores. Scores are a jumping off point, which by itself dings a good number of the applicants. After that, it's one's money, power, job title, looks, etc. that get thrown into the decision-mix. You simply don't have that calculation at St. Patrick's. And not to bash St. Patrick's, but your average family isn't going to spend over 25K on a school that most people have never heard of, or mistake for a parochial school. Bottom line - you will get a huge amount of applications at Beauvoir, proportionally much higher than other institutions.

Interesting that you couldn't just let poster 22:27 comment go.....why this manic rush to defend Beauvoir against St. Pats?? And not to belabor this point, but if Beauvoir is so much "better" than St. Pats, than why do so many faculty members from St. Alban's (including AD) choose to send their kids to St. Pat's over B? And I don't buy the argument that they don't want their kids "down the hall." These kids would not even be in the same building with their parent if they went to B, and besides, if B was so far superior to St. Pats, you would think they wouldn't care if their kids' classrooms were next door. The implication here is that a group of academics who clearly have a handle on the education environment in DC, have chosen St. Pats over B for their children's education. This speaks volumes.

We are different posters and I am weighing in my opinion on the matter if that is ok with you. This is a myth about so many St. Alban's teachers children going to St. Pats. The reason why people are so defensive on this particular thread about Beauvoir is because this was a thread asking for advice from other Beauvoir parents and you came on it to trash Beauvoir and be ridiculous. That is why the mad rush to defend Beauvoir b/c your presence on this particular thread is not necessary, since I take it you don't attend Beauvoir. You obviously were rejected from Beauvoir and can't get past it or you just hate the school for no apparent reason which is even scarier!

New Beauvoir parent here. Who gives a rat's a** which DC school is harder to get into? Isn't this supposed to be about nurturing and educating our children and picking the school where they will be happiest, not parading our elite credentials in front of other parents whose kids don't go to Beauvoir, Sidwell, etc, etc? This really sickens me. Get a life, people. I am actually apprehensive about telling my friends that our DC is going to Beauvoir because I'm afraid they'll think I'm a snotty elitist - like the PPs who are bickering about whether or not Beauvoir is the hardest to get into. We picked Beauvoir IN SPITE OF its reputation for educating the kids of Washington elites - because it seems like a wonderful school that has created a warm, cheerful learning environment for children.

Oh, OP, in addition to the elitist crowd, you should know Beauvoir is stuffed to the gills with self righteous parents who chose the school for fit.

I just think that out of all the private schools in he District it has the prettiest facility and setting, esp. the playground and the charming little courtyard within the school. If I am spending 25K, plus for elementary school - I like that the place is nice and cheerful! I come from a well-to-do New England suburb and I have to say the families there are much more elitist than what I have encountered at Beauvoir.
Beauvoir has much more interesting and diverse families. Yes, there are the Waspy, Preppy, Horsey types - but there are just as many International families and regular Joes......I am a one of the regular Joes.......I think. Oh well, everyone is entitled to their own perceptions.....
