The odds are much better at B with all the slots available than at St. Patrick's.
A lot more people apply to Beauvoir plus the threshold is much higher at B - the scores are much higher...I don't know anyone whose child has below a 95% on testing
Getting into Beauvoir, unlike ANY other are private school, is more than just scores. Scores are a jumping off point, which by itself dings a good number of the applicants. After that, it's one's money, power, job title, looks, etc. that get thrown into the decision-mix. You simply don't have that calculation at St. Patrick's. And not to bash St. Patrick's, but your average family isn't going to spend over 25K on a school that most people have never heard of, or mistake for a parochial school. Bottom line - you will get a huge amount of applications at Beauvoir, proportionally much higher than other institutions.
New Beauvoir parent here. Who gives a rat's a** which DC school is harder to get into? Isn't this supposed to be about nurturing and educating our children and picking the school where they will be happiest, not parading our elite credentials in front of other parents whose kids don't go to Beauvoir, Sidwell, etc, etc? This really sickens me. Get a life, people. I am actually apprehensive about telling my friends that our DC is going to Beauvoir because I'm afraid they'll think I'm a snotty elitist - like the PPs who are bickering about whether or not Beauvoir is the hardest to get into. We picked Beauvoir IN SPITE OF its reputation for educating the kids of Washington elites - because it seems like a wonderful school that has created a warm, cheerful learning environment for children.
