| The writer/lead actress is a huge hypocrite. |
| Staged tv mommy drama. No thanks. Not even going to give it a chance. |
| The "odd mom" isn't really do different than the other moms. She just exists in opposition to them. The scene where she's all cute and skinny in the kitchen and her kids are asking her about her jiggly ass? Child please. Why not cast someone who looks less NYC cookie cutter? Oh wait, she's a brunette! |
|
^Yes! Or the scene where she goes on and on about how she never works out and proceeds to make herself a giant peanut butter sandwich?
PLEASE! She weighs about 100 pounds soaking wet. If you want to cast a skinny chick, fine. That is cool with me. But please do not show me a size 0 mother of three and then try to tell me she gorges herself all day and never works out despite very visible muscle tone. It's borderline insulting to my intelligence. |
| Unwatchable, canned drivel. |
I must watch!
|
The writer/actress is also old money/society. She just found a way to make money making fun of it. Seen a couple interviews with her, she constantly tries to make jokes that fall flat, at least she finds herself amusing.. |
Don't forget when she had a donut for breakfast and called it a gay bagel. Insulting on so many levels. |
No, really, don't bother. |
What the hell? I guess that kind of casually homophobic reference is considered to be "edgy" now. It's just dumb. |
| I have a pretty low bar for summer filler tv, and I was really looking forward to this (i.e I set my DVR last week to make sure I didn't miss it). And of course it sucked for all the reasons other PPs have mentioned. Bad acting, stupid and completely overwrought storylines, and more bad acting. Oh, and bad writing. Does the lead actress/writer think she's being edgy by dancing around in her underwear? Puhleeze. That being said, now that Mad Men is over and I don't really have anything else that I like to watch, I'll probably still slog through it. Damn you bravo. |
| Agreed, this was terrible, and not in the addictive, delicious way The Royals is. This lead actress is bad. Not funny. |
The lead actress is a writer, not an actress, that is the problem. She is the daughter of the CEO of Chanel and grew up on the UES. So, yes, her parents are big society figures. I wouldn't call them old money (whispering: they are Jewish). |

I thought it was pretty funny, but I also liked The Girlfriends Guide to Divorce.
On a side note, do you think Happyish is funny? |
OP here. your question goes to show that "these types of comedies" are for a specific taste or crowd. I dont agree with any of the negative comments about Odd Mom - I think its hilarious. The lead is obviously living "sarcastically" and loves herself despite being told she should be filled with self-loathing. And the comments about her body are silly. she's the classic skinny-fat. and I love that she lives in her underwear when she's home and that her DH is seemingly normal. And yes, her life seems very similar to characters on DCUM. I guess it depends on which forums you frequent. I also love Girfriend's Guide and YES Happyish is very funny but in a dramatic kind of way? Its obviously not a drama, but its not a classic comedy show either. Drama-dy? To each their own. I started this thread because I enjoyed the show, and yes I am surprised at the number of negative comments but I am certainly not going to quarrel about it! My DVR will continue recording Odd Mom, Girlfriend's Guide, Happy-ish along with all the other wonderful garbage on BRAVO! |
