Lottery is Open

My oldest DD is currently in PK3 in an OOB school and our youngest DD is eligible for PK3 next school year.

If I rank another school at #1 and my oldest DD school #2, does that decrease my chances of getting our youngest into the same school as our oldest?

I'm not applying at all. I'm a writer.

I'm not applying at all. I'm a zoologist.

(How is you being a writer relevant here. Unless you are writing about the lottery, information which you did not include).

Who are you talking about entering into the lottery? DD #1 or #2. I assume #2 (youngest). If you rank another school #1 above your older daughter's school and your younger daughter gets in your #1 pick, you younger daughter will not even be waitlisted for your older daughter's school. So, if you REALLY want school #1 more, then list is first and if you get in just accept that is where younger daughter will go, and she will NOT have the option to go to your older daughter's school because she wont' be on the waitlist at all. If this is the route you want to take and you think school #1 will be a good first for your older girl too, then you should be entering her into the lottery too (I assume you are).

Yes, DD #2. I didn't even think about DD#2 getting matched with the #1 school which means no hope for or DD current school.

I will now change my picks/strategy and lottery for DD#1 (oldest) into the school I'm considering for DD#2 (less likely to get in at the PK4 level). I will then rank DD#1 school fist followed by the school I'm ranking #1 for DD#2.

I would call the my school DC people to ask your question. I know things work a little different when siblings are involved.

The site that I applied through was a dc.gov site. The only .org sites that I saw are the main FAQs and the school profile stuff.

I don't think the site is built for writers or zoologists. I think it's built for people to apply to the lottery, which would require an account to link it all together for saving, submitting and editing and to allow for notifications.

Has anyone been able to apply for PS3? I was able to apply for my kid going into K, but for my PS3 I get this message:

PLEASE NOTE:
We are experiencing technical difficulties with the application at this time. We have identified the problem and are working to resolve it. Please try accessing the application at a later time. If you have started or submitted an application, it will not be affected. Remember: The My School DC lottery is a random lottery so there is no advantage to applying early.

Then why are you annoyed that the charters don't post the anticipated seats? Surely your writerly research has revealed that charters won't know how many seats they will have available for new students until siblings are accounted for and re-enrollment forms have been submitted.

DCPS makes anticipated calculations factoring in the same things you list above. Do you think DCPS re-enrollment forms for next year have already been submitted? Rather than list "anticipated seats" they should indicate how many sections of each grade they hope to have. How hard is that?

You also realize that DCPS has a central office and monster amounts of staff while charter schools do not. Are you a freelance writer? You don't seem very knowledgeable about the topic and covering the same old material that's hashed out year after year. Try some thing new beside lottery boo hoo, been there done that.

Siblings need to lottery into charters just as they do for DCPS. Charters should be able to give an estimate of how many seats they will have just as DCPS will. They won't be able to tell you if all of them are going to siblings (just as DCPS can't), but they should be able to give estimates of how many seats.

I was successful in completing a PK3 application no preference for MV.
