| Have you looked at the Episcopalian or Anglican church? More liberal/modern teachings in most cases and they also have the ritual. |

The church doesn't decide who is Catholic and neither does your Priest.
There's some ignorance showing up in here. If you can live up to the Ten Commandments, you are a good Catholic. Period. |
This is not correct. We do not have to get permission to join the church. |
Oh, I'm sure they're not fussy about who joins and pledges --- and put up with people breaking the rules too, but the church does have very clear-cut rules |
nope - there's noting in the ten commandments about the trinity or the resurrection -- they were written long before Christ. |
| You have such a good Pope now that you not feel hypocritical going to the Catholic Church. I am an atheist myself and I have great respect for Pope Francis. You should be proud to be affiliated with him. |

My husband grew up Catholic, I grew up Protestant, but we didn't attend anything for more than 10 years. When our son was born we wanted to go back to church, but my husband is too strong a believer in gay rights and women's rights to be Catholic again. To my surprise, we found a Presbyterian Church that was a great fit for us. We just walked in the door from there actually. |
Many people, both religious and irreligious, have great respect for the Pope. He does espouse the rules of the church however, which is against gay marriage and considers homosexuality to be "intrinsically disordered." |

We became Catholic (we had been Southern Baptist) in a very liberal Catholic Church deep in the Mississippi Delta. There was almost over oversight from the diocese at all. The Priest allowed my youngest son to have godparents who were openly gay, for example. It was a very diverse and very tolerant community. We moved away and just assumed we would find another Catholic Church with a similar feel. That did not happen.
We ended up leaving the Catholic Church and joining a Unity Church. Sometimes I miss the litergy. But I can't be a member of a church that discriminates against homosexuals or shames women who choose abortion. I just can't. That said, we have been very happy in the Unity Church. |

I am a "born again" Catholic. Raised in the church and some catholic schooling. Love the beach and surfing...was drawn to california style evangelism and became born again. I appreciate the preaching of Greg Laurie. I also respect the works and hard , thankless work the Catholic Church does around the word for poverty and disease.

| Couldn't do Catholic church as an adult. Started attending Methodist church. Even after 10+ years, there are still things I miss about the Catholic church but the Methodist church is much more about loving God and God loving you then about sin and disaster. |

Liberal in the Christian sense means "disagreeing with the Bible over sin". Jesus said ...
"Anyone who isn't with me opposes me, and anyone who isn't working with me is actually working against me. …15'I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. 16'So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. a betting man would say the odds are against those who are cool to Gods words and the lessons of the Bible. Jesus is saying he likes you better if you hate him than if you are luke-warm since those that hate actually accept he is God and refuse to follow. Besides, if you want to make up your own personality for God why do you want to waste what little time you have on Earth in church for? There are much more entertaining and desirable clubs to belong to. |

Catholic here - Baptized, Communion, Confirmed and married by the Catholic Church.
I am pro choice, believe that gays should have the right to marriage and believe in birth control. My feeling is this, those are someone else's choices that they have to make for themselves. They are not mine to make for them. I personally would not have an abortion and I am gay and if I was I personally would not get married. Because I would not personally make those decisions for myself, I still feel comfortable going to a Catholic Church. I also let the church for a while. I came back when I needed God the most. I think believing in God is more than the religion you chose to belong to. Go to church and know that your relationship with God is between you and your God. |
The second quote is one of the most important in the Bible. The meaning is obvious. Jesus loves those that follow fervently and those who are prodigal who he is wrestling with but will eventually break down and come home because they believe he is God at heart but are just rebelling. He will not accommodate the luke warm who worship their own version of an I-God with no interest of submitting to God's actual will and plan. |
This is me. I do think abortion is sinful and the Catholic Church has a right not to marry homosexuals, but I also believe those things should be legal since my Catholicism shouldn't have bearing on what is and is not legal. |
