I have intact teeth. No fillings, no crowns, no root canals. Good genes, I guess. |
| ^3 root canal poster here. I once had a dentist accuse me of having my teeth professionally cleaned before I came to his office. Nope, I was just super fastidious at home. In my case, my older fillings just weren't holding out. |
Wow! You do have great genes. Congratulations! I bet you don’t mind going to the dentist either. Wish I could say the same. |
Thank you, this makes me feel better. I am 26 with one root canal, possibly two more scheduled for tomorrow. I will have to get a number of fillings. I'm thrilled for all the people on here with perfect teeth but I have had serious health issues regarding my mouth that caused my teeth to decay, and every single member of my immediate family has had to get at least one root canal (my youngest brother is 20). Ethnically we are British so I wonder if there is something to be said for the Brits have weaker teeth stereotype. Also of note I am fastidious about brushing my teeth, floss daily, and often get complimented about how perfect and white my teeth look. So not everyone with fillings/root canals would appear as such. |
| I have many fillings and need my first crown next month. I am 47. I did not have good dental care when I was a child. |
46, one root canal, one crown, but need two more crowns in the next month because my cavities are so close together that there is hardly any tooth left
I grew up around here with good water and good dental care. I've cared for my teeth but did not floss for most of my life, and still do so irregularly, which is really stupid because the crowns are $400-$500 after insurance. Bottom line, I think I just have soft teeth. To the pp above -- how can you have more root canals than crowns? I thought if you had a root canal, you had to have a crown as the last step in the procedure? |
My dental care is not finished. I made the mistake of not going to the dentist at all during college or after so I just recently went in and the dentist told me my mouth is basically a horror show. I will have tigger fillings/crowns for each of the root canals. I had two placed today, 2 more that need to be put in, fillings/crowns for each root canal, and a few more on too of ot. To add to that I don't have insurance so I am paying it all out of pocket at 1700 per root canal and 1500 per filling. It absolutely sucks so damn much. |
| I'm 44. I have some really old fillings, but haven't had a cavity in over 20 years. I have had two root canals capped by crowns. Those were necessitated not by decay, but by cracked molars from bruxism. I used to have a horribly stressful job with the worst boss ever, and this caused me to grind my teeth at night. Thank god I extricated myself from that hellishness. The root canals were both done when I was 33. I just saw the dentist and she said the crowns are still in good shape. Cosmetically my teeth (at least the ones you can see when I smile) look great, and I'm fortunate enough to have white teeth. |
In my case, I discovered soda as a young tween and that killed my teeth. I didn't floss because I don't remember flossing being pushed so much back in the day or it fell on deaf ears for me. |

At 30 I had a root canal and crown, caused by a lateral periodontal cyst and much of the involved tooth being resorbed. When the LPC recurred, I had the tooth pulled and now have an implant. Fingers crossed that it won't recur again.
Other than that, lots of old fillings and no cavities. |

34.
I've had 2 root canals and 3 crowns, plus many fillings. I don't each a sugary diet, brush 2-3 times a day, floss every night, use prescription mouth wash, and had flourinated water as a child. I just have bad genes when it comes to teeth. My mom had a ton of dental work as well. |
| 53. Had my first root canal and crown at age 51. No others yet and hoping it stays that way for a while! |
| 41 one root canal/ crown, white teeth, many fillings in back teeth. I had dental care my whole life just no enamel on my back teeth. |
