AAP and who belongs....

I am sorry but I am calling BS on the teacher.

The teachers I know are too professional to publically bash their kids and too smart to publicwlly say that their jobs are pointless and should not exist.

That's not what OP is saying. I think she'd be happy teaching a class of gifted students. That is not what she has.
This an anonymous forum, and FCPS is a very large district. It's pretty easy to come here and let off some steam AND still be very professional and smart.

I believe every word and do not doubt for a second that OP is an actual AAP teacher in an actual center.

I'm also calling BS\They don't get to look in the files to see test scores
And they wouldn't confuse AAP with "gifted." So what if only three in class are "gifted;" they are not selected for being "gifted."

Huh? The AAP records are kept next to the cumulative folders. You'd better believe teacher have access to those records. If a teacher wants to look at the scores, they are right there in the records room.

OP said she doesn't care about scores, so is not claiming to have seen or not seen them. I would hope that AAP teachers 1) believe in what they're doing and 2) have an understanding of the program well enough to know is is not a gifted program and still find value in it.

I hope OP is not real, otherwise, it's just disappointing.

I believe her too.
The sad part is that the needs of the three truly gifted kids in this class are still not being met.

How so? Is an AAP teacher not able to challenge them at a different level? Why should a general ed teacher have to teach to four levels but an AAP teacher can't challenge her top students while teaching apparently the majority of the class at just one other level? If this is the case, how would those other children do in a general ed classroom?

OP, "if" you are a teacher, please get a different job. You don't belong in the classroom with young children who are very impressionable. I am certain that the children in your class can feel what you think. Shame on you, and shame on FCPS for employing you.

PPs, I have a child in AAP, and her teacher was horrible. My DC wanted to go back to the regular class, as the teacher was so nasty. The teacher would tell the kids that most of them didn't belong there. Thankfully she went on maternity leave and a nicer person came in to sub. Maybe the OP is this teacher. Sounds just like her!

You should talk w/ the principal to confirm this behavior has occurred and make the appropriate corrections. Sounds outlandish to me but who knows....

I absolutely believe the OP is a teacher. S/he sounds exactly like two AAP teachers I know at our center. They've made comments like this before to small groups of parents. And I agree completely.

Really smart, but lack practical skills or had emotional issues. All the other kids should be in basic tracked classrooms in a regular school. I don't know how tracked classrooms got to be such a dirty word.

No, 2E is a subset of truly gifted. You can have brilliant, high-IQ, truly gifted kids who behave normally.

2E means kids with special needs -- usually on the autism spectrum -- who also possess some particular gift in a particular area. What we used to call an idiot savant.

It is confirmed. The teacher voices her opinion all the time. She's a B*tch and no one seems to care. Hard to get rid of teachers because of the teachers union. Hope the new Super gets tough with some of these hags who should not be in front of kids, making them (the kids) feel less than.

I don't justify the nastiness, but I think you're projecting. Teachers are professionals, and I find it hard to believe that OP would tell the kids they don't belong there (and she's probably right). How dare you attempt to shame her? Ridiculous.

We all know AAP has become a commodity, and that people will do anything to try to get a spot, even if their kids would be perfectly well served in general ed. OP is just reinforcing that. It's truth.

I am not shaming her - just telling the truth. I have witnessed her remarks while I was in the classroom with other parents. She was telling us that most of the kids don't belong and she tells them so - this is what she told us. I spoke with the guidance about the teacher.. All to no avail. I hope she decides to be a SAHM.
