Something is wrong with me! Female related.

They should order a quantitative test to get the actual HCG number, not just a + or -. Labs totally screw stuff up all the time. When I had my infectious disease testing done in my first pregnancy, they came back Hep B positive. Health dept was notified and everything. It was a total screw up, but was still a pain in the neck to clear up.

Any update?

Hope everything is okay, OP!

Ok, an update. I found out yesterday that the second blood test was positive. I knew the first negative blood test wasn't correct--my doctor and I both think there was a lab error. I had a medical reason not to be on birth control and now i'm 6 weeks and 6 days pregnant.
I'm sad and overwhelmed.

There are non-hormonal birth control options. Hello condoms!

Why are you sad?

Ignore the asshole PP. I'm sorry OP. Hugs to you.

Thanks PP.
I'm disappointed. I can't have a baby right now. Thanks for the kind words.

30-year-old proven mothers who don't use birth control tend to get pregnant. I understand, I can't use birth control hormones either, and I'm also allergic to latex condoms. But rhythm is not a reliable birth control method. either get your partner to get a vasectomy or use charting plus condoms. Do not have sex at all on the days you are likely to get pregnant, And use condoms on the safer days.

I am sorry. Please don't feel bad if you need to get an abortion. There's nothing wrong with that. I'm sure you don't want to be going through this, regardless.

OP, I went through the same thing a couple of months ago. I'm so sorry and am thinking of you. In my case, I ended up miscarrying.

OP - you will be fine. The unexpected often turn out to be the best surprises.

+1. Vasectomy, tubal ligation, or any of the various non-hormonal birth control methods if you're not finished having children.

OP, go ahead and be sad. You have an unexpected pregnancy and it wasn't something you planned or wanted right now. You have every right to be sad. Marinate in it, even. Anyone who judges you for this is an asshole.

When you are ready to deal with it, start talking with your doctor, partner, and family about your options. You have a wide range of options, and hopefully you will be able to find the one that works best for your unique situation.

For what it is worth, one of my best friends in the world suffered from infertility for years before finally adopting. She was working on the adoption for years, when she suddenly got a call from a private party who had an unexpected/unplanned pregnancy. The mother was recently divorced and already had several elementary aged children, and wasn't in a financial or emotional state to add another child to the family. There were a LOT more issues at play, but to make a long story short, she decided to pursue an open adoption with my friend. That choice, however difficult, has resulted in so much happiness in this world.

Not to say you should give your child up for adoption. I don't know your situation enough to even suggest that. I'm just saying you have a range of options to consider, but you should go through your emotional rollercoaster first before turning to that. You have a right to do that!

I had an accidental pregnancy, but at no time did I blame it not not having birth control options. In fact, many failed for me. You need to own up to your responsibility. If you choose to terminate then you need to actually take control of your fertility.
