I live in Woodside, near downtown Silver Spring, and love it. Everything is five minutes away, or a stoplight or two, by car. It takes ten minutes to walk to a movie, the library, the Fillmore, a lot of restaurants. We are minutes from the Beltway. Our 16yo has no interest in learning to drive because he gets everywhere under his own steam.
If you offered me the house of my choice in Bethesda or Potomac tomorrow, I would not take it. |
BS you would jump on a house in Edgemoor. |
| While I like Silver Spring - this list is seriously flawed. They only looked at 139 'burbs nationwide?!! Doesn't even look like they had Bethesda or Arlington in the running. And how do they define SS exactly? Just the downtown area or the larger area? |
Not the poster you quoted but I personally wouldn't. The people and families in the Woodside neighborhood are just great and home values are rising, schools are actually well liked |
NP here but i agree with this. I've known some families from there who are very down to earth and the houses in that neighborhood are really nice. Although i have heard grumblings about the middle school so not everything is perfect. |
| Correct, PP. Sligo isn't great. |
SS is really getting so much better. They have much more variety in restaurants than Bethesda. A much nicer Whole Foods, too. Don't know about the schools, but I bet people in the DTSS up to 4 Corners corridor will make more money on home appreciation over the next 10 years than those of us snot bags that live in Bethesda.

| I own a house in 20814 and a house in 20901. I choose to live in 20901 because the house is significantly larger (though much less expensive) and I like the people about a million times more. |
I really hope this is true. We bought one of the priciest homes (extensive remodel, not a flip) on the market recently in SFC (still quite less expensive than Woodside). We're committed to the neighborhood for the long-term and love the home, but I'm hoping people continue to remodel/improve the homes and the prices continue to increase. |
| We just bought in South Woodside and I think the addition of the PL (if it happens) the money poured into DTSS and generally having smart, educated people who are priced out of Bethesda and work downtown move in will make the area more desirable. I mean Bethesda is at its peak - there is no gamble living there. So i agree with PP there is at least a 50% chance if not more of the DTSS to 4C folks making some money |

We've lived in Woodmoor for about 5 years, and have noticed a huge uptick in major renovations (and at least one true teardown) in the past couple of years. We have a great commute, can walk to some good neighborhood shops, and can get to some great restaurants in DTSS in 5-10 minutes. While I would consider living in Bethesda, I am not convinced the same home is worth almost $1 million more.
Yes, middle school seems to be the weak link in MCPS. High schools are top notch, and ES has been excellent so far. |
there is a lto of research that states the opposite, i think it is great people are trying to bring silver spring back but as someone who has been here most of their life, it has always been coming back |
| Lots of research? Is it in the links you provided? Growing up 20 years ago, there was lots of discussion of SS coming back. Not so much anymore, because it is there. I don't think the snotbags comment was necessary, but the rest of this (incl previous PPs) is pretty spot on. But if you have something to share, by all means share. |
Can you share your sources? |
Nope, I would not. Your disbelief makes me laugh, you west MoCo people are too much. |
