Silver Spring is DC's highest rated suburb

I'm a professional too, but I like to drive luxury cars, go to Europe on vacation, eat in downtown DC restaurants, and carry a designer bag or two. We are the same SES, but they tend to drive Honda minivans, Prius, etc and go on hiking trips, national parks, etc. We probably spend the same on these things, but we're just...different.

Never in my life have I forged a friendship based on the cars I drive or they drive.
Maybe, just maybe, the fact that you do might be the problem...not their taste in automobiles.
IJS!

Interesting. I live in Four Corners, so near you. On my block there are a bunch of luxury cars (Acura, couple of BMWs, a Porsche) and people go to Europe all the time and eat in good restaurants.

But I do see what you mean -- there's more of a Takoma Park like vibe in some parts of SS (one I personally like) that means people are a little more crunchy. I don't know anyone -- anyone! -- who carries a deisgner bag although, as you say, we could afford it.

Exactly what I meant, more crunchy. I'm not judging, but how you choose to spend your expendable money usually reflects your tastes, character, priorities or whatever you want to call it. I like talking to my neighbors about organic gardening, what's good at the farmer's market, etc but wish I had someone to get manicures with, talk about trips to Paris or go to try the latest new restaurant. Another difference is that most of my neighbors are in their 40s and have 3 kids while I'm still in my 30s with a baby.

Uh, yeah, maybe that is why they aren't taking many european vacations and spending their money on designer handbags.

It takes ten minutes to walk to a movie, the library, the Fillmore, a lot of restaurants. We are minutes from the Beltway. Our 16yo has no interest in learning to drive because he gets everywhere under his own steam.

If you offered me the house of my choice in Bethesda or Potomac tomorrow, I would not take it.

Ah, you protest too loud.

Your choice of house? Would it come with the hefty Bethesda pricetag?

Enjoy SS without needing to build it up by cutting down places you don't/can't live.
Woodside is very cute. Again, enjoy.
