Your state allows marijuana? |
I agree 100%. These sort of things really hurt me. |
Actually, no it does not. I assume that the PP is AA. As an AA, I understand this 100%. Whether we want to believe this or not, there are certain negative sterotypes about Black males. So as a AA parent, I work doubly hard to make sure that my sons do not personify this stereotype. All you have to do is read DCUM and you will see how a lot of folks see AA males in particular. And this area is somewaht enlightened. I agree with PP. |
Yea ...i think that is what PP meant...that is the way we are "viewed", not the way we "are" -- big difference. |
|
I hope CPS takes this child. I won't watch the video -- I. JUST.CANT.
I am praying for this child and it's messed up family. |
NP here. You seem like the one with the huge chip, PP. You act like the other PP is betraying her race by speaking "proper" English or participating in activities that white people participate in. That, to you, is "the worst of the worst"? |
No. You, my friend, are in denial. That is the worst of the worst. |
NP here. I do give a damn about how folks view my Black family because, in the real world, that impacts how they are treated and what opportunities they have. So yea, I do make sure my sons have their pants pulled up and their hair brushed. But then again, I have teen sons and I have seen firsthand how people perceive them at first glance. Do I over enunciate? No, but I speak appropriately based on the setting. I do not talk to my boss the same way I talk to my friends. I actually do not put down anyone, but I mentor quite a few young AA's. Oh, and WTF is a White approved activity? YOU sound like the one with the complex. |
You be trippin'. Is that how you would like for me to speak? And if tee ball, ballet, and kung fu are "white" approved, then I am guilty...sue me! |
| This is the face of inner city and extreme rural America. I want to see every teacher that got OUTSTANDING observations in their little nice schools to go over and teach these kids. It's a different world in inner city self-inflicted poverty neighborhoods. |

I'm not going to watch the clip because I've seen abuse, and don't need to see it again.
As for people who "super over enunciate"... to others, this is simply what's called speaking normally. Sad that it's apparently such an effort for some. I would hope most people realize this is abuse, not cultural differences at play here. |
It's not a crime nor a point of shame to attend / teach in a "nice little school." There should be no guilt over it. |
| It didn't seem like he was being physically abused. He looks clean and the adults seem to be used to this behavior. I am not condoning it, but I grew up with a white step dad that called me names (shit head, little shit, dumbass) always in a teasing, semi loving manner. He grew up in a poor family in Oklahoma and this was how they showed affection. I was also encouraged to throw back epithets that he would laugh at and encourage. It was messed up, but he never abused me. I did just fine, I did not continue this cycle with my kids. This is how this family "plays" it sounds horrible to us, and it is wrong but if this child turns into a "thug" it's because of many different reasons. |
| I don't see how calling the toddler a "thug" is racist. Was it racist when the adult in the video was calling him a thug? I don't associate "thug" with a certain skin color, just a certain type of criminal element, color of skin regardless. |
