Had an actual fight with DH about Gisele Bundchen

LOL, this is OP. I am sure he finds her hot, but that's OK, he is honestly allowed to admire celebrities' looks. And like I said last night to him - I am sure the difference between you and Tom Brady is that you "didn't try hard enough"

You are right, that was what we fought about. I was just saying that is not why I am posting. The fight prompted me to wonder if I am projecting, like another poster said, and also whether this picture of Gisele was only annoying to me. Sounds like most people liked the picture even if they don't like Gisele in general, so I might be in the minority

So last night I was passing by the TV while the photo was on the news and commented to DH how annoying I find her. DH said he thought she was doing a great thing by promoting BF, and clearly it is very important to her (implying that if a woman didn't still BF with a one year old, she must not have put a high importance on it). From there things really went downhill and of course we ended up fighting about our own issues and not really Gisele - I think nobody should be passing judgement on other moms about how long or if they breastfeed. I myself did it with both kids for about 6 months, but I am a working mom and once I start pumping during the day, my supply goes down and things just come to a natural end pretty quickly.

I think DH believes I didn't try hard enough, and that really upsets me, but it is not why I am posting. I am just curious, does anyone else find that photo irritating? At best, I find it counterproductive if the goal is to promote BF and an attitude of women can have it all, since most of us are not Gisele Bundchen with all her money and glamorous life. At worst, I think it is obnoxiously smug. And yes, I am more than a little jealous

Yeah, you're clearly upset about your own issues with breastfeeding and feeling judged. Do you think your husband judges you, or do you know that? Are you projecting your own feelings of inadequacy onto him? "She nursed her baby until the baby was one, so it must be important to her" doesn't necessarily imply that women who don't nurse that long don't care about it. I'm not the world's biggest fan of Gisele, but I wasn't at all offended by the photo. yes, she's rich and beautiful and has a team of people to help her, but it's also a nice way to show that breastfeeding isn't something to be ashamed of or hidden, and I loved that the photo showed all the people who work to make her look so good--it really shows the effort that goes into her glamour. I don't think that we should be judging others on their breastfeeding, and Gisele has made some judgmental remarks in the past, but a photo of a woman breastfeeding =/= judgment of women who don't.

it is not the picture that offends people, it is the caption she wrote about "multitasking" that I think should chap most working mothers asses (whether it is in the home or out!) Real multitasking for mom's does not look like her picture above that is why it is smug in case some of you missed it!

I think you're reading WAY too much into the photo. Her nose is tilted up simply because her hair is being pulled back and she's tilted her whole face up to have makeup put on.

She's not "being pampered" in that picture. She is simply WORKING. That's all. This is what she does for a living.

I forgive any pregnant woman and any woman crazy high off having recently been pregnant of any ridiculous stuff they say, so her comment a couple of years ago didn't bother me at all.

It sounds like YOU are feeling guilty and that's why you're defensive.

I think breastfeeding is important to Gisele. She has a mountain of money. If she did not want to be nursing that child (or holding that child at that moment for that matter) she would simply pay someone else to do it. Gisele can afford a wet nurse.
