Student faces expulsion from school due to her natural hair

Do we really give a fuck about Florida any more? Chads, Trayvon.... Clearly the state does not have our brightest bulbs. Can we give the state to Cuba?

And, might I add, this does not sound very Christian. Wonder what the pope would say? I think I'll tweet him the story.

OP did you take your DNA test yet?

OP here. I have indeed. Have you taken yours? My mom is African American and my dad is Italian and per the DNA test we have Native American in our lineage as well. I don't see what my ancestry has to do with me being in agreement with the school though that her hair is a distraction though.

This story makes me livid. LIVID. I would be raising hell. A black girl can't wear her hair the fucking way it grows from her head without it being a "distraction"? What does that say about the rest of us?

According to the story other kids are making comments about her hair and so her parents complained to the school that Shes being bullied. It does not seem like the hair itself is the distraction but the disruptions and fallout that is occurring due to her choice in hairstyle.

It sounds like the disruptions and fallout are due to the bullies.

And the source of all the commotion is the hair. The student hand book stipulates that the hairstyles of students should not cause distractions. The rules were already outlined in the handbook before she started wearing her hair in this style.

If I decide to bully you for whatever reason, it doesn't make you or the piece of you I target the distraction.

Hair a distraction? Seriously? That's awful and obviously poorly- disguised racism .

Green or striped hair is a distraction. Normal hair is not. There is nothing wrong with her hair other than the fact that she is wearing it differently from how she used to, apparently. If a white girl with long blond hair suddenly got an Army-style shaved cut, that would be the same level of "distraction" -- which is to say, it would be noticeable for a few days and then everyone would get used to it. The school is being ridiculous.

I fail to see what's distracting about this girl's hair, and think the school should abjectly apologize for heinously targeting the victim (of the bullying/teasing incidents).

And I look Asian with long straight hair if it makes a difference to anybody.

I'm white and my hair would look like that if I did not pul it back or blow it and basically glue it down. I don't think she should be forced to cut it as that will only make it worse as that kind of hair as longer is easier. Parents should pull it back or do something. School is wrong.

I'm willing to bet that turbans also would be deemed a distraction at "Faith Christian Academy."

This is some serious BS. How can this school call themselves "Christian" when they are not accepting of all

It's a perfectly natural and attractive hairstyle. I'm also a child of the sixties.

I'm as conservative as it gets and even I think the school is horrid. I would sue if this was my DD!
