1150 calories a day? Really? Already sounds like she's starving to me. I am the same height and a few pounds lighter, and no way could I just eat 1150 without fainting. |

Like have mentioned more protein, more fat, less fruit, less grains, less dairy.
Eat no grain, no sugar, no fruit and no dairy for a months to clean your system and jump start the weight loss then you can resume eating some of it but stay as wheat and refined sugar free as possible. Basically paleo. |
| Eat more. Not less. Especially protein. Drink more water. Dint eat after 6pm. No alcohol. Exersize more than you are now. Do hot yoga 2-3 x a week. |
| Don't eat after 6pm. Meant to say. Or at least 8pm if 6pm is difficult! |
Starving, really? No wonder this country has a weight problem, if our perception is so skewed. OP, I'd lose the snacks. Adults don't need 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. |

NP here. I'm in a rut...... a lot of comments about decreasing sugar and grain (carb) in-take resonate with me and i know i have to up protein intake. what are the easiest ways to do this?
I'm 5'5, 131lbs. I walk (briskly) to/from work every day - totals about 4 miles. I track calories pretty well and try to stay around 1200. I think I need to shake it up as i've totally hit a plateau. |
| OP here...thanks all for the tips everyone! For most of my life I was actually somewhat underweight (i.e. 105) but than a life crisis hit and ongoing medication bumped my weight up to 125 where it's remained. I am definitely going to start with upping my protein intake....this morning I had 3 egg whites with veggies mixed in. I'm going to cut out the calorie bomb nuts or just have a few rather than 1/4 cup. The green smoothies I am doing for health...to get lots of greens in and I usually do 1.5 fruits with several cups of spinach and kale, so I will probably keep this. Sweets are my weakness (didn't even factor my slips into my sample menu)....I think maybe journaling may help with reducing the sweets/carb intake and noticing when I am reaching for them during times of stress. I've hurt my knee recently and so I can't wait to get back into the groove of exercising and will try and do more toning/lifting. I'm open to any more advice and tips! |
That's if you want to be 115 and you don't exercise at all. Like if you drive to work, don't go to gym, etc. |

Try myfitnesspal as a calorie counter. They have an iPhone app and online version.
You really need to cut the sugar and carbs to drop the extra weight. Up the veg, protein and fats. |

Weighing 125lbs can be very appropriate at 5' 2".
As you are seeing, there a lot of opinions on what to do that will probably be unhealthy for you based on your IBS and other issues. I would be so scared to take advice from random people who have never met me. What was your expectation? Find a magic answer on in a anonymous forum, from people who may/may not have the right training to offer advice? Thought: Contact a dietician or hire a reputable personal trainer who is a certified nutritionist. Fwiw, I agree you need to add in some appropriate strength training 3 times/wk, and I also agree with others about decreasing sugar intake and increasing your calories (with the right foods, of course) Track sugar intake - try to keep it at 15g per meal, maxing out at 45-50g/day. Drink water with every meal and snack. Also, get at least 7-8 hours of sleep and work on reducing your stress. Signed, The anonymous online fitness & nutrition "expert" |

And livestrong recommends around 1700 calories for a 115 lb person. Should not go below 1200 a day. This country also has many people with anorexia and bulimia. |
| Weight Watchers (I also do online). I struggle with weight loss and this is what works for me. My exercise regime is not enough. I love WW because it doesn't make me cut out the stuff I like to eat - but I have to be careful about it. I typically stick to my daily points during the week and save my extra workout points and weekly points for the weekend. That way, I don't worry about dinners out or having a few drinks blowing my diet. And it's pretty easy to do. |
