If you are an atheist

I really don't think there is a God, so I'm not concerned about what will happen to me. If I'm wrong, surely God is forgiving and won't hold my thoughts against me but will instead judge me on how I lived my life. If you consider all the beliefs of all of the people across the world, the majority of people are wrong when it comes to religion. Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims can't all be "right." Is God going to punish people who believe what they believe largely based on their upbringing and culture?

He forgives everything but poeple who deny him, denying him is the only sin he doesn't forgive. How do you expect Someone you deny to forgive you?? What would be the point then???

If there were a God that is anything like the publicity, I will be up there in heaven for having tried to be a good person, and succeeded at least moderately well, I believe. A God that punishes us for using the brains we were provided would be a real disappointment.

Why do you think you would be granted entry to heaven after denying the very existence of the Being who grants access to heaven? Would you get a promotion at work if you spend your entire day denying his existence, insulting him, and blaming him for all of your problems? Why do you think it would be different?

So, do Hindus get in? Or do you have to believe in the Christian god?

I know some Christian ministers who will tell you that yes, a Hindu who has led a loving life will get in. Obviously this isn't a universally shared theological position.

I think the only reason OP started this thread is so he/she can "educate" us atheists. I think OP is a christian troll.

Not OP, but ... Then don't click on the thread, obviously. Unless you want to linger a while and explain to us how "educating" (if that was indeed her intent, and I have no idea) is the same thing as "trolling for a fight."

That's interesting (I mean that without any snark at all, I'm genuinely fascinated by this topic and I know it's hard to read tone in these threads)

So, a minister might say that a Hindu or Muslim who lives a good life according to the principals of his/her religion, even if they are not Christian ideals, would still be admitted? But an atheist who denies the existence of any higher power would not be admitted?

You should google the definition of evangelism. OP used a general title in relation to atheists, I clicked because it pertains to me, and then begins telling atheists that we are wrong in our beliefs.

OP is a christian troll, like I stated before.

OP Here- No, my intent is not to "educate" you as Faith is from the Heart not the Brain so noone can educate you if you don't feel it. I was curious about what atheists believe happens after they die, that's all

I don't know, honestly, because I've never had that particular conversation with a minister. I have had the conversation about Muslims and polytheists with more than one minister. It seems logical that the same reasoning would apply to loving atheists (which might actually offend some of you more strident atheists!) but I don't know the ministers' position.

Not the PP, but your view of religion is very specific. Many conceptions of god and/or religion are different than the one you are conditioned to believe is true. Many don't think of god as a "he" either.

I'm not saying anything like you're not going to Heaven or you're going to Hell or anything, but I'm curious if you understand that this is not how it works? You don't get into Heaven for having tried to be a good person -- or even for being a good person. Entry to Heaven is for those who kept the faith and lived by God's law, not "good" people.

I'm curious as to whether you understand that that is your opinion rather than objective fact. It doesn't even take an atheist to disagree with your statement.

+1. You don't "know" anything. You believe that, and it's fine, but I cannot understand the arrogance that allows people to claim they "know" these things.

Still, that's quite a hedge by the pp. "I'm an atheist, but if there is a God, he'll let me into heaven because I'm a good person."

Um, no. And you're probably not nearly as good as you think you are. One redeeming factor about religious people is that they generally acknowledge their transgressions and seek atonement. Atheists just tend to be smug.
