I'm white, but I know my co-worker posts and she is Korean, my one neighbor is Indian and my other neighbor is AA.

I count 3!

I agree. The OP was needlessly inflammatory and just as bad as those she was trying to call out. That said, anytime there is any sort of discussion involving AA culture it turns into a huge racism fueled flame fest that goes on for dozens and dozens of pages. The only other topics that tend to touch off worse firestorms are SAH vs WAH and anything to do with catholicism, abortion, or circumcision.

I concur. Perhaps lingering pain is the cause of this inflammation - from both AA and others. My instincts say that many AA still feel second-class and/or misunderstood and non-AA have a difficult time coming to terms with our nation's past transgressions against AA and the lasting impact it's had. Thus, the "fire" fueled by pain and regret, IMHO.

i'm black. this off topic forum is usually very entertaining to me, but there are probably just as many uptight black folks on here as white ones.

someone got all huffy when i referred to the black ladies on the mad men thread as brown sugar. that could very well have been a black or white person not being able to to take a joke.

Yes! Although, it may not seem like it at times. I've been on this site for about 8 years now and it seems to be more black people, but of course it's hard to say for sure. The overwhelming majority is middle to upper class white women in NW DC though. Just the way it skews here.

I'm AA. I love Dcum but had to take a break because of the racism toward Blacks. It was making me angry.

I am white, and I hate the obvious and latent racism on this board.

Starting with OP's post, whatever his/ her race, correct?

True. We have uptight, obnoxious, entitled people of all races. We also have non-uptight, non-obnoxious, and non-entitled people of all races. Also, we have at least one grumpy white guy who wishes everyone would be both less offensive and less offended.

It's a bias against the poor, not any particular race.

To be honest...I see where you are coming from, but it goes both ways. There have been some nasty comments and accusations made against white people on DCUM as well. Those posters are just in a class of their own though and both races (if we are talking atraight white and black) are wrong when these comments come about.

I also think that a majority of people on here are elitist and ignorant. I dont think it neccessarily stems from them being racist. I think some comments stem from them not being cultured or involved in their community enough to have the experience of whats out there in society. I think alot of these posters are in their "circles" and dont want to open their eyes to the world. And this is again for all races.

I'm an AA woman. While I sometimes get upset at some of the things said about black people, I also find it quite interesting how (some) white people seem obsessed about black people (what we're doing, why we're doing it, etc).

It would be flattering if the intent wasn't so insulting.

I'm an AA woman and I see DCUM as equal opportunity offensive.

I think it's a fascinating window into the minds of people who I may or may not know.
