UVA ranked the top party school in the country??

Hardly seems fair that UVA has a top reputation, historic grounds and fun parties while UMD is stuck in College Park and is known only for students burning couches. No wonder they so damn cranky.

That's not fair. Maryland is also known for an athletic department in shambles. And what is with that swimming pool fiasco?

It's not fair but UVA 's reputation of harboring drunks, having easy majors and being bad at math has contributed to zero accomplishments by graduates . With only 20 national championship teams UVA is a second rate athletic dept since Umd has twice as many. The unfortunate location of UVA with 6x the violent crime as college park also ties in with the violent student on student crime.

Maryland does seem to produce a breed of insecure horn-blowing graduates unparalleled in American education. So that's something.

Plus more Nobel and Pulitzer grads!

- Mom: But Johnny, you can't do both.

Does it have a large athletic program, children of privilege and kids with grade-inflated scores, over-test prepped and helicopter parents? Then there's your answer.

Sounds like a formula for suicide. No wonder they drink so heavily.

Didn't go to either of these schools but I can't believe there is even a debate - UVA is ranked #24 and U. Maryland is #58 in US News. Isn't this like comparing Harvard and Boston University? Seriously, Maryland alums - get a grip and a more realistic rival.

Umd is rated higher in the times of London and every other world ranking .

Only us news has UVA rated higher since it is a pay to play rating

Umd has more Nobel graduates and faculty
Umd has more Pulitzer graduates and faculty
Umd has more research funding
Umd has twice the national championships
College park has 6x less violent crime than Charlottesville
Umd has more academy award alumni
Umd has the following creations/inventions made by alumni

Google. Muppets . Underarmour. Seinfeld. The Wire. Sirius Satellite . Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Apollo 13. Pulse Dopplar Radar. The Jumbotron. Coronary Stents. Miniaturized Insulin pump. Linear Programming. The Universal Price Code. Retractable Landing Gear. The Octane System, The Automatic Parachute. The Hybrid Engine, Outback Stealhouse, Nautica.

UVA got drunk... and did a real estate settlement!

Hey... Umd alum also broke watergate! You left that out!

Umd booster, I have to admit , the United States would be unrecocognizable without those creations by your alumni . Seriously, the world would be completely different. That is Very Impressive and I don't think many schools come even close to those kinds of significant genius outside of MIT or Stanford. I'll bet even Harvard hasn't had that much genius invention. You got your point across and should tone it down!

There is no debate, really. Just a one spiteful little booster who got rejected by UVa and just can't seem to move on with life. He cites some foreign newspaper as "proof" that Maryland is superior. Really? That's it. He patrols the board relentlessy looking for any perceived slight to his beloved alma mater and responds with a torrent of posts trying to create the impression that there is somebody else who actually agrees with him. Sadly, that is not the case. Most Maryland grads have publicly disaasociated themselves from him. What's worse, his entire ruse fails because he posts with formulaic responses that reveal the substandard education he received at College Park.

Your amusing, delusional and outright weird attitude is funny! If you think having fewer Nobel graduates and faculty, fewer Nobel graduates and faculty, fewer academy award graduates, ranked lower in every world university ranking other than us news, less research funding, virtually zero major accomplishments or inventions by graduates, being the biggest drinking school in the U S, having half the number of national championships than UMD. And located in a town with 6x the violent crime than college park.... Then U r truly WAK. Uva(sounds like sunburn). UMD (sounds like medical doctor!)

UVA 111 up, 128 down
An overrated liberal arts school located in central Virginia, UVa was founded by slave-owner and womanizing adulterer Thomas Jefferson in 1819 -- seven years prior to his death, and in declining mental health. UVa has flourished since its creation, boasting not only the integrity and adherence to each and every one of its founders personal tenets, but also the dissemination of self-assurance, elitism and lazy thinking. Today, UVa's student body is comprised mostly of over-privileged, cocksure trustfund babies who haven't the vaguest idea of what hard work really is. UVa boasts a top-notch medical school, law school and business school; often, the medical and law schools are referred to as "the sequestered bastions of hard work at UVa." While not entirely accurate, the number of UVa undergrads who lean on the prestige of their medical and law schools are indeed multitudinous. Moreover, the undergrads who espouse this elitist mentality and constantly evoke UVa's academic prestige to placate irrepressible feelings of insecurity, confusion, and even sexual inadequacy, are, ironically, people who could never gain admission to either their law school or medical school -- regardless of how many pairs of loafers or khaki shorts they own.
