Violent crime, property crime, and TOTAL crime is much worse in College Park than Charlottesville. I'm sure this surprises no one, except UMd guy.

How are assaults during football weekends not assaults? I guess in the Maryland Booster's world, assaults during sporting events are just routine conduct. Not surprising, i guess, for a school where students riot and burn couches in the street after winning a regular season basketball game. |
Much worse? Are you reading the same stats as I am? They're a bit worse. The chance of being a victim of a crime in Charlottesville is 1 in 23. The chance of being a victim of a violent crime in Charlottesville is 1 in 219. The chance of being a victim of a property crime in Charlottesville is 1 in 26. The estimated chance of being a victim of a crime in College Park is 1 in 22. The estimated chance of being a victim of a violent crime in College Park is 1 in 171. The estimated chance of being a victim of a property crime in College Park is 1 in 25. |
At least it makes sense at Umd.. It's DC. Access to metro..the Capitol the center of western civilization , the most powerful city on the planet.
UVA in the middle of nowhere with very high crime is just weird and sad. |
. UVA games are not on campus. Tailgating and drinking all day leads to run-ins with the police..Fights and butt pinching. Everybody knows it. It's all cited under assault. Lacrosse murders and abduction murders UVA style are another story. |
So UVA is the top party school, but Maryland leads in butt-pinching and assaults? I guess I can believe that. |
And UVA leads in student on student murder, abductions, and easy majors. |
.... And lack of pulitzers, nobels, graduate achievement and athletic championships. |
This is seriously the stupidest debate of all time. U.Maryland guy - I don't give two shits about assault rates (probably 6-7 of the top ten ranked schools are in shit neighborhoods where the assault rate is far higher than in Charlottesville or wherever the hell U.Maryland is) or the third-rate polls which you cite (I'm sure many other shit schools also do well in those polls; don't think they will sway anyone from going to Harvard). As an alum of neither school and as a parent, if I were going to send my kid to a local college, I'd care about sending the kid to a school employers would be impressed by. U.Maryland isn't that school. People are impressed by UVA. That's all. |
Actually... It's the opposite. The drinking and easy majors make UVA grads a poor hire. Umd grads are good at math/science tech and also have more pulitzers than UVA . That's why Umd grads create such huge products and world changing inventions and UVA grads can't . |
As an employer I would hire a Umd , VT , or Penn State grad over a UVA grad every day of the week. UVA grads have a delusional sense of entitlement mixed with unmarketable skills. I always picture a drunk wearing a tie to a football game majoring in history and wishing for a return to slavery...who needs them. |
I agree. For data-entry type jobs or cash-register jobs, or even light accounting-type jobs, Maryland grads and their UMd math skills would be a good fit. But for just about everything else, I'll take the UVA grad. |
As a UVA grad, I'd hire the best person for the job. I don't get hung up on where people got their degrees. |
Uva grads are good at non math jobs like dog - grooming. Don't take your dog there on their drinking days , however! |
What field are you in? For engineering or computer science, something I know about, I would be as happy or happier with UMD or Penn State as UVA. |
