What's going on on DCUM??

Anonymous
In the case of the unpaid vacation thread, please read more carefully. No one was "ruining this person's life." She eggs it on, is known for that, and that takes glee when an entire thread is opened about her name "to see where it's going." She loves the attention. Don't be fooled.
I didn't read the other thread so I can't comment.

Simple solution: ignore it.

If the OP didn't want to engage, that's what they would do too. I've walked away from threads that were too much so many times before. I've been using DCUM for years and have learned to avoid trollish topics when I'm not in the mood for that kind of banter.

I agree with the PP re: satire. People who've not been here for long don't get that. There are plenty of websites that require logins and moderate like crazy. I prefer the rawness of DCUM most of the time and avoid it when I'm not.

The trolls are out of control on DCUM lately. I hope more people will ask Jeff to block CL. She is the bully, and I have noticed a marked increase in outrageous, cruel posts to even the sweetest threads (e.g., my very clever dd) or threads where the OP seems genuinely in need of sympathy (e.g., filed for divorce today) in the past couple of weeks. I can only infer it's due to her and like-minded trolls.

I've been on DCUM for years, and it's never been this bad before. OP, if you are CL, I hope you won't be on DCUM much longer.

You're missing some great threads.

Me too, to some extent. Threads that are 7+ pages long also tend to be a giant mess of threaded replies. I hate threaded replies.

do a search on chipotle or "stinky eye" (don't even ask). Or read the thread on unpaid leave, it's in recent topics.

CL is short for Chipotle Lady, but really should be Crazy Lady.

My money is on the Blogger from the "deleted" thread.

Can't be CL, too grammatically correct for her.

disagree.. this screams CL:

To be honest it comes across like bullying on the playground. The bullies find a "weakness" in their victim and proceed to make that person's life a misery on account of that weakness.

Anonymous wrote:I actually find DCUM pretty mild mannered, particularly for an anonymous board that attracts people with a range of cultural and political views. Personally I'm not into engaging in name calling, or even serious arguing online, but I will post satirical responses-and I make the same kind of satirical remarks to people IRL. If I find that a thread is turning ugly and unfunny, I click away, but those threads are fairly easy to spot and avoid.

I'm often curious about posters on DCUM who constantly complain that others aren't nice or polite. For me, the top qualities I'm looking for in other posters are smart, funny, informative, and interesting. Nice and polite are qualities that are fairly low on my list. I do try to avoid evil and psycho, which is why I now longer read comments online comments for newspapers-they always seem to attract the worst kind of trolls, but DCUM definitely is not at that level.

I'd have to agree with this. For the most part, the participants of DCUM can construct reasonable arguments, write in coherent sentences, and are generally educated. That's not the case with online commentary on a lot of sites, even those that require log in names. I don't really care if people are being nice, I care if their intellectual capacity is at least college level, and shows.....

People were really mean to the blogger person. Especially after it was proven that she did not even post her blog on this forum in the first place.

CL is def. the poster of the metro thread about the boy wearing girls clothing.

I have tried not to be mean to CL (although my frustrations have gotten the better of me and I'm sure I could have been nicer)

My issue with her, and trolls like her, is that a thread starts off fine and I write in some advice....and then get attacked by OP for said advice. And it's all for her entertainment. I do think that making fake posts on here can be detrimental because it makes people pause to figure out if they should try to help OP out, or if they are falling for a troll.

A good example of this is what happened on the post about a woman being hit while riding her bike. When people hadn't heard about on the news, the distrust that CL and others have instilled, made people second guess if the OP had made up a horrible thread for her own entertainment.

What I don't like is when people run to Jeff, or threaten Jeff when they read something like don't like. Unless a post is in true violation of DCUM's policies, then Jeff should not in any way intervene. Otherwise it damages the credibility of the site.

CL here. Why block me? Because I'm not afraid to respond to the nasty women that linger around here? The cowards that lash out online because IRL they're a bunch of wimps or passive aggressive bitches that don't have the guts to say stuff to people's faces?

That's all I do. I speak up. Where I grow up there's no bullying. You know why? Because if someone makes fun of someone in school they get disciplined in school AND at home. Here you teach your children that it's OK to make fun of others, to question the teachers when they don't rule in favor of your precious innocent offspring so they grow up to think the world revolves around them.

Bad news, it doesn't!

And on the "make shit up" you like to emphasize, guess what? I would never post a thread with all real information about my family. NEVER. I would never risk to be outed by a nosy neighbor or a two-faced "friend". Like a lot of users here I change details and will keep doing so.

I was under the impression CL admitted to making up entire posts for her entertainment, and not for changing a few details.

Also, CL, you know very well that you attack posters whose ideas are different from yours, and then that brings on more hate directed towards you. Please don't act innocent in all of this.
