I've said this before in other threads but the anonymous feature makes everyone look like a troll... I've been mistaken for other posters many times after agreeing or disagreeing with a perspective... |
I might be #1 because I am critical of the recent teacher raise. I think we voters give the union too much power. I don't blame the union for taking it, though. That said, they need to not wear a glass chin and accept some criticism.
Whenever I criticize the union, I often find some 'I teach your crappy children and you are clueless' comment back. I did not see that on your list. Also, what I frequently hate on all forums is the passive aggressive "yawn" type of comment that fails to engage in discussion or directly respond. |
OP here again. Could you point to an "I teach your crappy children" teacher post? I have never seen that. There seem to be a wide range of teachers posting here, some hate MCPS, some defend it, so it's impossible to lump them into a single "teacher troll."
Since we're on the subject, I hate "you must have reading comprehension problems." No, you (and I don't mean you specifically, 22:30, in this context) just don't want to understand that I disagree with you! |
Here is a quick one that is a little snarky and doesn't advance the cause. The poster doesn't say crappy kids exactly, but the theme is that 'you parents are ignorant' and the tone does not advance the discussion. "I deserve my pay raise. My CHILDREN do, too. So while you sit back and sip your coffee at your desk, getting up to use the restroom when you please, think about ignorant you sound when you have no idea what it's like to work with kids from broken homes who struggle not only in school - but at home." http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/15/237643.page That said, there are comments from parents too that call teachers names so they send their kids to private schools, but comment on the public school forum. I don't like those either. I think MCPS teachers are great, but I do have problems with MCPS Admin, BOE, etc. |
Maybe we agree it's unfair to build a single "teacher bogeyman"? This is what Troll #3 is doing at 10:43 with her whingy teacher that she uses as a straw teacher for denying raises to all teachers.
The poster I'm disgusted with is the one that keeps posting how teachers have lower SATs than the general population, are dumb and can't do anything else besides teach. No, I'm not a teacher nor are there any teachers in my family. But my kids have had some good and some bad teachers. I think it's sort of like my own very different field of work, where some of my colleagues are winners and some are losers. |
1+. The brighest minds in American go into public education and teaching. I agree with the above post. I am a teacher. |
If you are union-hating #1, then you post your anti-union points over and over again, to the point where it's impossible to discuss anything else. See the recent "Moving to VA/DC/MD" thread for an example, but not the only instance. Why do you do this? Why can't you post your thoughts once or twice and assume everyone has read them? |
Me again. So I have posted against the MCPS union/apple ballot many times and I have been attacked for it (including the usual 'here's another union hater'). I did not post on the 'Moving to VA/DC/MD' thread, though, so maybe there are others. I actually try to lay out a case for my position. I am ok with people that disagree. I try not to call people names and write as if I was not anonymous and as if my kid's teacher was on the other end of the argument. I like my kid's teachers. I just don't like some of the policies of MCPS/union. Maybe the thing we all hate is when people respond to legitimate argument with "Your an idiot". It doesn't matter which side of the discussion you are on, it is the lack of respect that bothers me most. Kind of like our national politics.... |
This sounds absolutely reasonable - reasonable people can disagree. It's the poster on the "Moving to VA/DC/MD" thread who shut down that thread with repeated anti-union postings, and she's been on other threads. So maybe the problem is that other people are confusing you with her? |
What is your source for this assertion? I think the opposite: At one time, bright women became teachers because that was one of the very few professions open to them. Now, with many options available to them, bright women choose other lines of work. |
The bottom line is this - People are jealous of teachers.
While we may not make the big bucks we - have great health insurance, - are able to stay home with our kids during the summer, - have somewhat normal hours where we may be able to do drop off and/or pick up, - can tutor our own kids or find experts who can (big plus), - in some cases can pick the schools for our own kids, and - can spend holidays with our children. But most of all, despite how difficult the job is (Most on this board won't agree but that's just ignorance.), we enrich and save lives. |
I agree - this has happened to me and I don't even post that often. |
Ummmm... With the exception of staying home all summer, I have all of the above, only I make about 3x as much money. So, not really feeling the jealously. |
Nope, not jealous at all. My DH is a teacher and I wouldn't trade places with him for anything. I couldn't be "on" all day as I am too introverted for that, and I couldn't handle being around kids all day. I work part-time in the private sector, mostly from home - I get plenty of time with my kids. I appreciate your work, though. |
+1 wife's a teacher.... They have all the guts and none of the glory... |
