I have nothing further to add to this statement or my original statement issued in October 2008 over eight months ago...

that isn't the "original" birth certificate. that is the short form.

again, i think two things: (1) obviously he was born in Hawaii and (2) it odd that they don't release the original to shut up the nutjobs. the hawaii governor has said as much.

Hawaii only issues the so-called "short form". It's obviously not the original because it was only printed in 2008 or so. But, it is an "official" birth certificate. You can find plenty of Hawaiian long forms from 1961 on the Internet. They do not include religion. It's not clear that Obama could obtain a long form if he so desired. Regardless, Obama could release anything anyone ever requested and it would still not shut up the nutjobs.

There are quotes of people in authority in Hawaii saying they have reviewed the original, so why doesn't he just release it? maybe that wouldn't silence the nutjobs completely, but it should. the gov of hawaii wonders the same thing. but again, its really a silly issue so i'm not going to waste any more time on it ...

Does anyone know whether there has ever been a President whose original birth certificate was publicly displayed? Lincoln was supposedly born in a log cabin; did the cabin have an official archive for storing his birth certificate?

That's the only explanation I can think of for not releasing the long form. I have mine upstairs in a file cabinet. It was easy to obtain from my home state. If Obama wants this controversy to go away, all he has to do is release the long form or provide an explanation as to why he does not want to release the long form.

Once again, Hawaii no longer issues long forms. If you want a Hawaiian birth certificate, you get a short form. In fact, they no longer even use the terms "long form" and "short form". They have birth certificates. That's what Obama has made public.
