NP here, who also hates BOA. I had a savings acct with another bank that BOA bought. They lowered the interest rate, so I decided to close the account and transfer the funds. I did an online transfer through BOA's website - and they froze it, with no notice! They claimed it was because it was not in line with my usual banking, and then it took probably a dozen phone calls and hours, followed by a trip to a BOA branch, to get them to unfreeze it and give me my money. Customer service was atrocious. They kept transferring me, disconnecting me, then their systems were down so they couldn't look things up, they were supposed to call back and never did, sent me to the wrong depts - it was just a nightmare. I've never seen such incompetence. |
I also love their billpay features and don't get extra charges because our home mortgage is with them. I do think they're way too big and that their customer service is beyond inadequate. |
Do you work for the DOD? They losened the restrictions, probably cause of the down economy. Here's the eligibility list: Navy Federal's field of membership is determined by the National Credit Union Administration. If you fall under any of these categories, you're eligible to join: All Department of Defense (DoD) uniformed personnel—Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force retirees and annuitants All Department of Defense Reservists—Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force retirees and annuitants All Army and Air National Guard Personnel—civilian employees, retirees and annuitants All DoD Officer Candidate programs—Midshipmen and cadets at the United States Naval Academy, United States Military Academy, United States Air Force Academy, United States Coast Guard Academy and the United States Merchant Marine Academy; Other Officer Programs* U.S. Government employees assigned to DoD installations (including Coast Guard) All DoD civilian employees—including retirees and annuitants DoD contractors assigned to U.S. Government installations Family Members—including grandparents, parents, spouses, siblings, grandchildren, children (including adopted and stepchildren) and household members Once your family members have joined, they can extend the membership opportunity to their family members, too. |
| USAA |
Another one for USAA. Really like their online bill pay. |
Do you have a lot of money with them? I think they are significantly better with higher end customers. |
If you have a problem with a payment not making it to a vendor, how do they resolve it? BofA calls the vendor, confirms the payment was issued by the account holder and asks for any late fees to be removed, then reissues the payment. Not that I like BofA, but that part is very efficient. As far as BofA fees go...they charge a $12 fee for incoming wire transfers! This is just one of many different types of fees they charge. If you're careful or just do run-of-the-mill banking you can avoid most if not all fees. |
| Never had that problem (payment not reaching a vendor) with USAA. I am sure it happens and their is a policy in place though, just never encountered it. |
| TD Bank. Fantastic customer service and great hours, if there's a location near you. |
Haven't had a problem either with USAA and bill pay. |
| Not Capital One. Was a happy Chevy Chase customer for years. Their online bill paying is messed up. I thought I had scheduled a big Visa bill payment online, but then it didn't show up as paid or as a scheduled payment. So I reentered it. And, you guessed it, the amount was subtracted twice from my account, and I was overdrawn. They did pay back the two overdraft charges, but it took lots of time and aggravation to correct. |
| Capital One sucks!!! So mad at them for screwing up the excellent system already implemented by Chevy Chase. Leaving this month for Suntrust. They offered me a great deal as part of my refinance. |

I have been with Wachovia since it was "First Pennsylvania" way back when,, 1970's. Wachovia's bill Pay is great in that the pay date is when the funds are taken from your account.
Now Wells Fargo is taking over inApril 2011 . Their Bill pay has the funds out of your account 5 days before the pay date. So that if your bill is due to be paid on April 5, your funds are withdrawn from your account on April 1. This now gives Wells Fargo a 5 day "Hang Time". They are getting interest on your funds for 5 days. What a great deal ,FOR WELLS FARGO. I have emailed Wells Fargo 3 thimes and Wachovis 2 to complain. Today I stopped at my local Wachovia bank to complain. I got the usual double talk. I'm looking for another bank that does not do this. Anyone??? |

Word for word/item for item, I agree with you. Same for us, and their online pay process is the reason we've stayed with them. |
