We are currently with Bank of America, but they stink! The thing is, they have wonderful online bill pay features (we think). But we they charge a fee for EVERYTHING. Does your financial institution have a great online bill pay system? Your recommendations are greatly appreciated. TIA!
I banked with Wachovia until a year ago - the online bill pay/banking were free with my checking account, and bill pay was pretty immediate for most vendors. Then i switched to Suntrust bc i got an account with no charges for non-Suntrust ATM usage (those charges used to kill me on my Wachovia account), but i am so disappointed in the online bill pay - it takes significantly longer from the date I submit the bill pay to the earliest date it can get paid - here's the icing, this is true even to pay my Suntrust mortgage!!(meaning, it takes longer to pay Suntrust mortgage with Suntrust's online bill pay than To pay Suntrust mortgage with Wachovia's online bill pay!!
I'm with PNC. I was a pretty late adopter to online bill pay (what took me so long???), so I don't have much to compare it with, but so far PNC has been great. No extra fees to pay online and there's not much of a lag between my keystroke and the payment. (Maybe one or two days at most.)

I use Wachovia for online bill pay. It is awesome. My only beef is that it is easy to not notice which account you are drawing the funds from. After a check bouncing disaster, I pay closer attention. They were nice about it and refunded almost all of my fees.
I left Bank of America because of the their lame customer service several years ago. Wachovia is so much better. The folks at the 800 number and in the branch are knowledgable and courteous. B of A was seriously lacking in both of those departments. I've had more security problems at Wachovia. They always take care of it. I'm not sure if that is a sign of the times or their security overall. I've closed 3 accounts for security problems over the last 5 years. Only once was it our fault. A check was stolen out of our mail box and used online. |
6:41 PP here. I wanted to add that when they froze my account once due to an online breach, no one contacted me. I didn't know that I didn't have access to my funds until my debit card was declined. Luckily, it was at a gas station. It would have really sucked to find out after eating a meal at a restaurant or when checking out at the grocery store. I didn't carry much cash or other cards at the time. They also tried to hold my pay checks after I had to open a new account because of this same problem. Their excuse? It was a new account. We had a little chat about the security problem being their fault and they saw things my way.
I have both ING Direct and PNC Virtual Wallet. I prefer ING.

I use NavyFederal and their online bill pay is great. If you set up the payment before 2pm, it will get paid the next business day. I have some set up recurring and most of them I get an electronic bill sent right to my web bill pay page - and I get an email when an electronic bill comes in.
I think you only sync up your bill pay with your main Che king account, but they have it set up so you can transfer money between any of your accounts with just a couple of clicks. |
I was a Chevy Chase customer and was such a fan of their on line bill pay. They were purchased by Capital One, a bank that offers a much inferior service - I hate it! Switching banks after 11 years. I miss Chevy Chase........;(
Op here -- thanks for the responses! Are there any M&T people who can weigh in??
I use Wachovia and love it. I was surprised to hear about the security issues from PP above - we've banked with them for going on 15 years and have never had a problem, but I guess we better pay close attention.
I use both Wachovia and Navy Federal and like them both.
I also don't like BofA. I hope they go away and never come back. Almost happened. That is all.
If you are military or fed employee - Navy Federal is the way to go. I have NO complaints after nearly 10 years of being a member. The online banking is easy and free.
You can join if you are non-military but a federal employee? |
For those who aren't happy with BOA, I'm curious--what kinds of problems are you having? We've used them for over 10 years and haven't had any issues. Rarely, if ever, use their counter service so I can't comment on that but LOVE their online banking and haven't been charged any fees for anything that I can recall. I'm really surprised to hear that that many people don't like them? What am I missing?
