Sometimes there are weird compatibility problems. It's best to leave files in their originated formats. Some people and companies have jankier PDF software for whatever reason. Cost per seat, probably. |
My value comes from my experience and knowledge, not admin skills my secretary/admin staff is hired to do. We have many admin staff but I'd not ask them to do non-work-related duties like this. |
DP: Maybe she does not have an adobe subscription? Mine is read only. |
+1 You asked her for ways to improve your CV for this position. She's actually going to mark it up for you. This is pretty nice of her, and it's nuts to think she's going to . . . pretend to have your work experience herself? Also OP if you asked her for a sit down lunch as a networking opportunity for yourself the first time I would have expected you to pay for that meal, so I don't think it's crazy that she didn't reimburse you for the lunch you brought to her office. |

Agree.
If you want help, Word is far better than pdf or even google docs. |
| There’s nothing wrong with her request; she wants to edit easier |
| What is actually wrong with you? |
|
Lol OP got the corporate version of the lady who dates guys just for free cheap meals.

OP here-- thanks so much-- you have given me plenty to think about. I don't see the rationale for strong preference for a word file. Even googledocs will view a pdf file. And while pdf can be converted to word, it is wonky as hell. I had a recruiter try to do that and he said the formatting was all over the place.
I did not invite her to lunch, she suggested we get lunch and being the local person, i made arrangements. I thought with business lunches, the more senior pays or split. She makes almost 3x what I do! I said I dont have the word file handy anymore and really worried about the timelines so I went ahead and submitted the application. I did say thank you for the support. It might just be that the trust is not there. Or something is wrong with me! |
I work with top line enterprise adobe tools and conversion of formatted text from pdf to word is often janky. Why would I want to deal with that? |
I think her weird lunch thing made you paranoid. Because it’s otherwise a normal request to want a Word doc to make edits. But agree, the lunch thing is weird. Is she by chance not American born? I’ve met women from other cultures in the work world who have different expectations about being served by anyone they deem junior to them, almost no matter the context. |

OP glad I am not your "mentor".
I really can't understand why you think there is some sort of gold in the doc version of your resume. Can you please enlighten us as to what this is that the world might want? signed, a senior executive applying for multiple types of jobs who now has offers and interviews. |
this. you're weird, op. |
wtf??? you don't have a word version of your resume? that's weird. |
| The word file is not weird. The bringing lunch to her is. |
