WWYD-- ? Mentor asking for word file of my CV

Anonymous
Do you really think if they wanted to copy the information they couldn’t do from a pdf? You sound like you’re not tech savvy.

OP, I work in tech (cyber specifically) and I request .docx for resumes to review and edit. It's just easier.

Want my best help? Then follow my lead. Otherwise you'll get vague feedback rather than actual markup.

OP here-- It just really seems weird to me to ask for a word file. As many of you mentioned, the file format should not make any difference. I do know it is easier to edit a document on word. I was not expecting her to edit it, and I honestly dont think she would have edited it. I think my theory comes from resume writing services where they only give you the pdf file.

I have let it go and hopefully she just thinks I am weird too. She is from a South Asian country. I will admit that I felt incredibly taken advantaged of with the lunch thing. It really rubbed me off the wrong way.

Good to know. I'm not in tech and we literally live in adobe.

We don’t review PDF files unless it’s a management directed review.

Please don’t use this phrase again. It’s rubbed me the wrong way.

That is irrelevant.

I'd not want to help someone like you OP. Maybe it worked out the best for you and your mentor.

She could copy it if it’s in Adobe too

Agree! I put "? mentor " because I was not sure. The trust certainly was not there and it was a mistake for me to have reached out, especially after the lunch incident.

Lol OP you certainly are paranoid. What is this person making 3x what you do going to steal from your resume??
Anonymous
Op you have shown yourself to be someone. I hope I never hire. Crazy, not listening at all to other posters who give you honest advice, terrible at writing, no tech skills, and randomly mentioning the race of the person who you asked to do you a favor apropos of nothing. I can’t recall a recent Op who seemed so unappealing who wasn’t also a troll. Yet you strike me as perhaps ill or not quite right. Are you ok?

Anonymous wrote:OP here-- our industry is very heavy on adobe. There is zero chance she does not know how to use adobe or have no access to adobe PRO. (I will admit the responses here have been illuminating). She is a naturalized US citizen, C suite with stock options and on nonfortune 500 boards. I don't understand the request and felt iffy to ask why so i just pretended I dont have the word file anymore and didnt want her to be busied. I just dont think the trust is there and I dont want her gunning for me. I realize I am a nobody... but it's a small industry. I wish I could tell you my industry and you'll see why it's so laughable to ask for a word file.

Can you explain exactly what nefarious thing she would do with a doc of your resume? I don't get it. It sounds like she has a better job than you which is why you are asking her for advice. Do you actually think she will cut and paste elements into her own resume? What kind of sense would that even make? It's such a bizarre suspicion.

Omg. just send the word doc. It is extremely difficult to edit and make changes to a pdf. Revision tracking and commenting work so much better on a word doc.
