WWYD-- ? Mentor asking for word file of my CV

Anonymous
I don’t agree to edit anything or offer comments unless I am provided with a doc I can edit/track changes. I’m not printing out a locked pdf and typing up edits/comments along with directional guidance (eg, second section, 3rd bullet, etc.).

Nobody is trying to steal your CV.

WTH is wrong with you? Are you generally paranoid? Do you always assume the worst?

She’s using it for the ease of track changes, no to steal your resume. You’re obnoxious and too self important.

This. If she copies it from the PDF, the formatting will be off. She wants to use track changes and comments.

This is pretty standard editing practice for a lot of people.

Absolutely. And if she wanted to be nefarious she could scrape into or save as an editable doc.

You think she is going to post excerpts on the SENIOR COLLEAGUE GOOFIEST RESUME I GOT THIS WEEK FORUM?

I still can't figure out what OP is so paranoid about.

I mean upload pdf to Gemini on free Google search and it will give you a text version in milliseconds.

And improve it 10x better that what you had.

Why would she need a Word doc to copy from you? You seem like at least a decade behind the current tech trends.

I spend 90% of my work days writing and editing, including editing other people's work. If someone sent me a PDF to edit and refused to send me a Word document, I'd be pretty miffed. I don't even know how to edit in PDF format, and I assume it's infinitely more cumbersome than editing a Word doc.

I do know it is easier to edit a document on word. I was not expecting her to edit it, and I honestly dont think she would have edited it. I think my theory comes from resume writing services where they only give you the pdf file.

I have let it go and hopefully she just thinks I am weird too. She is from a South Asian country. I will admit that I felt incredibly taken advantaged of with the lunch thing. It really rubbed me off the wrong way.

I don't think its weird at all. You are asking her to look at it and make changes. She is not a mentor, she's an acquaintance that you are taking advantage of and using her. You are really entitled to expect her to pay for lunch when you are asking for her help. You should have paid for at least yourself, if not both of you. You are 100% wrong.

lol what do you think she's going to do? It was rude of you to send her a PDF if you were asking for edits. I hope this is a troll post.
