Who knows.

Yeah, whether Netflix recouped its initial investment--or I read that Meghan bought Netflix's silent share out--the fact that this happened within the first year is impressive, no matter how you feel about the show or the jam.

I could live without the show. But a few months ago, a hater who was trying to figure out Meghan's stock accidentally exposed that she's moved something like $23m in product in the first year. You (and I) may not be the market for her show or jams. But c'mon people, it's undeniable that her store is going gangbusters. I dunno, but I sort of like to think that the store frees Meghan and Harry up, income-wise, to do the philanthropic work on which they really seem to want to focus.

Charity Watch says her philanthropic foundation only gives away about $1.2m per year. What gives?

Their philanthropic foundation is completely unrelated to their personal income. But for the record, last fall Harry visited London and announced >$1m in personal donations.

What gives? Apparent not her charity.

ba-dum tssss

Again, their foundation and their personal income are completely different entities. C'mon, guys, this is extremely basic.

Although as noted above, they're also very generous from their personal income. See, for example this from last fall: https://www.gdnonline.com/Details/1362768. This much, much more generous than Will and Kate, who give little or nothing nothing either personally or from their Wales foundation.

Will and Kate gave out £1.2m last year despite raising £11m. They spent more on admin than they gave out in grants/donations. What gives?

I remember reading that item and feeling that it was basically impossible to interpret that number, if credible, in isolation from everything else.

Oh boy, here we go, gotta bring in Will and Kate! How does Will and Kate’s stinginess have anything to do with Harry and Meghan?

I have no doubt Harry and Meghan are more generous than Will and Kate. That doesn’t mean Harry and Meghan are amazing philanthropic leaders. It doesn’t mean anything at all.

Stop bringing up Will and Kate.

That is meaningless without knowing her overhead.

+1 not a cheap operation

Oh boy. Pot, meet kettle. You or someone else brought up the Sussexes' foundation, which has eff all to do with Meghan's for-profit business, As Ever. Admittedly, whoever brought it up didn't seem to grasp the basic distinction between a for-profit business vs. a non-profit charity, but whatever.

Anyway, if the OT Sussex charity is fair game, then the OT Waleses charity is also fair game. Or we could just go back to discussing Meghan's for-profit As Ever business. Your call!

Glad Netflix dropped it. It was stupid and just another bid for attention.

The Netflix show was a bid for income because the Sussexes are no longer drinking from the royal teat and have to support themselves, including substantial security costs.

Maybe the show was always designed to draw attention to her online store. It looks like the As Ever store is raking in a fair amount of income for the Sussexes, so maybe they don't need the show anymore.

No one's buying jam someone outsourced in desperation.

'The Duchess of Sussex's jam and flower sprinkles business just 'didn't fit' and their customers showed 'no appetite' for it, a Los Angeles insider claimed.'

Will and Kate are abject leeches and 1000 times more useless than Megan and Harry. Apples and oranges. Better to compare M&H to other Hollywood D listers.

Is that something Netflix does? I can’t think of any comparative shows/products where Netflix’s actual agreed upon role is to help a private company grow. How would the parties even write that into a contract?

I think the Sussexes are a truly unique situation. I'm not saying Meagan's show or store are unique, but their flavor of celebrity (actress turned royal turned lifestyle creator) certainly IS unique. Their Oprah interview had a huge viewership. Why wouldn't Netflix want to end the relationship between on a positive note in case Harry and Meagan ever want to participate in that kind of content again?

It's pretty much over for them. They are aging and haven't been able to do anything of substance in years. Public interest isn't there either.

Disagree. The second they are willing to get personal again, they will have an audience. This may well never happen, but Netflix will be there to pick up the pieces if it does.

NP- The Oprah interview drew people in because it was a juicy tell-all. Then Harry also told his story in Spare. There is no more of this sort of content coming without royal access. So what's left? Harry has little to offer and Meghan was a better influencer before she married him with more authentic and fun content. I think the big mistake by both Netflix and H & M was not opening their actual home for the show. People do not want to watch people playing pretend in an over-curated way in a space not even their own with guests who are not their friends.
